When I started writing The Breath of Life, I wanted to re-invent the way I composed; to create music that was so different from anything I'd written before, and yet somehow still "me". Having kids has changed the way I see the world, and this Benedicite is full of the joy and wonder of seeing the world around us through the eyes of a child - it has a childlike simplicity to it, and and perhaps that's why it's resonating with so many people at the moment. Speaking of the kids, they came home from school one day when I was working on the percussion parts for this movement: "Wow daddy, that sounds amazing. It's a pity you don't write music like that"...
