The first computer programming language was developed by a woman. 💡 Grace Hopper didn’t just write code. She changed the way humans communicate with machines. She created FLOW-MATIC, one of the first languages that used English-like instructions, and played a key role in the development of COBOL, making programming more accessible for businesses and developers. Even more revolutionary, her work led to the first compiler → translating human-readable code into machine instructions → laying the foundation for modern programming languages Every developer today is building on the path she created. The next time you write code, remember you are using an idea that started with her vision. #computerlanguage #programming #coding #development #GraceHopper WomenInTech TechHistory SoftwareDevelopment Coders Developers Innovation ComputerScience AI FutureOfWork

In 1947 a scientist taped a moth into a logbook and accidentally coined the term computer bug. In 1947, engineers at Harvard were troubleshooting the Mark II computer when the machine suddenly malfunctioned. The relays clicked erratically, and calculations stalled. Searching through the hardware, the team discovered the culprit — a moth trapped between the relay contacts. Computer pioneer Grace Hopper carefully removed the insect, taped it into the engineering logbook, and wrote: “First actual case of bug being found.” Although the term “bug” had been informally used for mechanical glitches before, this was the first time it was documented in a computing context. The moment became a piece of computing folklore. Hopper’s note helped cement “computer bug” as the standard phrase for software and hardware errors in the digital age. Today the moth remains preserved in the Smithsonian, a reminder that even the earliest computers suffered from problems both technical and… biological. #1947History #GraceHopper #ComputerBug #DidYouKnow #MindBlowingFacts #HistoryReels #TechHistory #ComputingOrigins #ViralReels

Have you ever wondered where the phrase computer bug comes from? 🐞 Many believe that Navy Rear Admiral Grace Hopper discovered the first computer bug when a moth flew into her machine.  In addition to this, Hopper was a pioneer in computer programming and the first female individual recipient of the National Medal of Technology in 1991 and the first woman to earn a Ph.D. in mathematics from Yale in 1934. Grace Hopper | The woman who refused to speak in machine language and made computers meet her halfway Grace Hopper [1906–1992] changed the direction of computing by making it more accessible to humans. Born in New York, she showed early talent in mathematics and went on to earn a PhD from Yale University. During World War II, she joined the U.S. Navy and began working on early computers like the Harvard Mark I. At the time, programming required writing instructions in machine code, a slow and complex process. Hopper believed computers should be easier to use. She developed the first compiler, a program that converts human-readable instructions into machine language. This innovation allowed programmers to write code using words instead of numeric sequences. Her work led to the development of COBOL, one of the earliest high-level programming languages, widely used in business and government systems. Hopper’s ideas were initially met with skepticism, as many believed computers should remain strictly technical tools. Over time, her approach proved essential as computing expanded. Today, nearly all programming languages follow the principle she introduced, bridging human logic and machine execution. Hopper didn’t just improve programming. She changed who could participate in it, and that changed everything. #thealmostgenius #computerscience #gracehopper
