🌦️Google just announced Groundsource, an AI system that builds flash flood datasets from millions of news articles, solving a longstanding problem in disaster forecasting. Because flash floods strike too fast for traditional sensors to record, reliable historical data never existed. Groundsource uses Gemini to extract confirmed flood locations and times from global news reports, creating a training dataset from scratch. A neural network trained on this data can now predict urban flash floods up to 24 hours in advance. The predictions are live on Google’s free Flood Hub platform, which already tracks flood risks for over two billion people across 150 countries. Looks like the airplane is breathing 😅 Well this was an interesting one, what you are actually watching is the right hand pack (air conditioning) system ram air inlet malfunctioning. In normal condition Operation of the The pack temperature control system operates from a source of pressurized air which is supplied from the engines, the APU or from a ground source. The air is metered in the flow control valve to provide a constant volumetric flow regardless of the cabin altitude. The nominal flow can be increased or decreased by cockpit command. The metered flow is cooled in the primary heat exchanger using ambient ram air as a heat sink. The flow of the ram air is regulated by the movable ram air inlet flaps to minimize the ram air flow while at the same time assuring an efficient heat transfer and thrust recovery. In flight, ambient ram air pressure helps the fan to supply satisfactory flow. For ground operation, the Air-Cycle Machine (ACM) fan provides the required ram air flow. During take-off and landing, the ram air inlet is closed to avoid dirt ingestion and contamination of the heat exchangers. So after some troubleshooting with the proper manuals it was determined that one of the sensors that reads the pressure was malfunctioning. It was sending incorrect readings to the inlet actuator. As you can see it was functioning erratically. A quick removal and replacement of the sensor corrected the problem.
