Water use comes in two parts: direct cooling water drawn and evaporated at data centers, and indirect water use for power generation that supplies them. While some water is drawn from rivers or groundwater and lost to evaporation, new technologies and non‑potable water reuse aim to cut this footprint, though concerns remain in water‑stressed regions where rapid data center buildouts may strain local supplies.
