PIFOOD DIARY: Haarlem, The Netherlands 🇳🇱
Friends of mine live in Haarlem, a city just outside of Amsterdam in the Northwest Netherlands. I adore this little medieval city that is filled with not just cobblestone streets and iconic Dutch architecture, but also a bustling food scene. If you find yourself there, here’s my food diary from previous visits.
☀️ To start the day, a coffee and a pasties de nata from @coffeespothaarlem. Warm custard, crispy pastry with a cosy atmosphere.
🍟 Patatje Oorlog, translating to “war fries”, is a go-to Dutch street food: chips topped with mayo, peanut satay sauce and raw diced onions. The first portion (which was just the satay) was from @dehaerlemschevlaamse and the second, from @friethuislapetite.
🐟 For lunch, sharing bits from Visspecialist De Dolfijn for some of Haarlem’s best fish. Crispy kibbeling remoulade, herring with raw onions and octopus in a vinegar dressing.
🍔 For dinner, @yourbunsworld for a trio of hot buns: One, a mini smashburger. Two, pulled beef. Three, pulled chicken. Paired with Cajun fries and dunked in truffle mayo? Sorted.
🍫 Finishing this log: a lil sweet treat. It’s gotta be done. Ice cream and mouthwatering choccies from @chocolateriepierre.

WA🇳🇱 Vandaag was de begin van #haarlemschoontop, een weeklange campagne om het centrum van Haarlem een lenteschoonmaak te geven.
Er staan veel activiteiten gepland.. Google gewoon even “Haarlem Schoont Op”. Ik ben deze week in de stad met mijn grijper en stroop mijn mouwen op (kunnen bananen dat eigenlijk?).
Laten we Haarlem laten stralen! ✨
