To sew a ladder stitch, thread a needle with matching thread and tie a knot at the end. Begin by inserting the needle inside one folded edge and make a small stitch, then insert the needle into the opposite folded edge and make a stitch of the same length. Continue alternating stitches between the two edges, keeping them evenly spaced. Gently pull the thread to close the opening. At the end, secure with a small knot and hide the thread tail inside the project.
The ladder stitch is also known as the slip stitch or invisible stitch.
