💻 I have a new love in my life, and it is called TouchDesigner. 🔴 For YEARS I kept telling myself that I’d take the time to learn this program, but (like a lot of things) I just kept putting it off. But this past month, I focused all my energy and finally committed to learning it and honestly, it is the FUN-EST S*%$ EVER!!!! 🟢 I’m now at a point where I’m feeling confident enough to tackle more challenging things (like this video). It’s amazing how much you can absorb when you dedicate yourself to one thing. 🔵 If you’re interested in learning TouchDesigner, I recommend checking out the official @touchdesigner website. They created a FREE fundamentals course, and it’s genuinely the best introduction because they prioritise understanding the program over just following steps. You’ll actually grasp the technical details and know what’s happening under the hood, rather than memorising a workflow.

I’ve been exploring new mediums of art recently, trying to find what calls to me the most — this project is the closest I’ve gotten to this goal so far in my journey. It is so satisfying and rewarding to move my hands around in random ways and create whole new sounds I never thought possible. ✋👌🤏Another handtracking project made in TouchDesigner! For this one, I used a 3D scan of an artichoke flower and applied a few techniques I’ve picked up recently. Most notably, using the ‘switch TOP’ and also creating chromatic aberration with the RGB delay component. Big thanks to ‘Supermarket Sallad’ @simondavidryden on YouTube for that tutorial, I also grabbed some loops off Splice and referenced them to my hand gestures so the sounds were triggered with the movement. 🧠 I’ve been pushing myself to do one of these weekly, and it’s paying off because I’m starting to wrap my brain around the hand-tracking data in the MediaPipe component and how to use it. There’s something so satisfying about reaching that point where you start to grasp the ‘why’ behind the technical stuff, not just the ‘how.’ It feels good to know that each time I make one, I reference the tutorials less and less. My goal by the end of the year is to feel confident enough to experiment freely without needing a tutorial at all. 🤍 Shoutout to @blankensmithing and @domscott.art for creating the Media Pipe plugin! These handtracking projects have been the most fun way to learn @touchdesigner 🌸

Experimenting MIDI outs in @touchdesigner . Here, I'm sending the fingertips data to an external device called VMPK (virtual midi piano keyboard). Each finger is assigned to a note and it triggers if the y axis value goes below 0.3 Playing “my heart will go on” using my fingers was challenging at first because it has more than 10 notes and I only have 10 fingers :( Then I made a switch that toggles if I make a fist. So the note changes whenever I make a closed fist.
