Sound familiar? 💛 You're not imagining it—and your kid isn’t too much. They're highly sensitive, and there is a better way to support them. Having a highly sensitive kid requires you to parent a little differently… Certain things like loud noises, bad smells, or itchy clothes can RUIN their day. They struggle with plans changing and falling out of routine. A small skinned knee can feel like the END OF THE WORLD. But learning IF your kid is highly sensitive can open up a WORLD of parenting opportunities. It’s actually not harder to parent highly sensitive kids at all. It just takes a little more knowledge to know the tricks. So comment “sensitive” to take the quiz and let me know if it helps! PS I have a FREE workshop on HSCs coming up for people who got my book this week and also recorded a whole podcast episode about highly sensitive kids (also free) so if you take the quiz, make sure you listen to it!

Say these 5 things to your highly sensitive child this week: 1️⃣”You’re safe. I’m right here with you.” 2️⃣ “Your feelings make sense to me.” 3️⃣ “Let’s take this one step at a time.” 4️⃣ “Your brain is doing a lot right now, I can help.” 5️⃣ “You don’t have to hold it all together. I’ve got you.” These phrases soften their nervous system and help it shift from “alert” to “okay.” Sensitive kids tend to hold more tension in their bodies, and words that signal safety + support create real change. Try these throughout the week (not just during hard moments) and watch their behavior follow the nervous system, not the other way around.

Parenting a highly sensitive child while running on empty? That bone-deep exhaustion is real. And you’re not alone in it. When you’ve spent years: • Walking on eggshells • Predicting triggers • Managing meltdowns • Explaining to others • Second-guessing every move... Burnout isn’t just likely. It’s INEVITABLE. Because constantly scanning for the next storm… While holding space for intense emotions… While masking your own feelings… While trying to keep it all together... It takes more than any parent has to give. Here’s the truth nobody tells you: Your child’s safety starts with YOUR safety. Their regulation begins with YOUR regulation. Their healing flows from YOUR healing. Yes, this feels impossible when you’re depleted. Yes, it takes time. And no, changes won’t happen overnight. But every time you: • Pause before reacting • Breathe through the storm • Honor your own limits • Fill your own cup first... You’re not just healing yourself. You’re showing your child what emotional safety looks like. Little by little: • Meltdowns soften • Triggers lose their power • Connection deepens • And both of you begin to feel safe again Your burnout isn’t a failure. It’s a call to pivot. And you don’t have to figure it out alone. 🚀 I have a free training to help you get started healing your own burnout and shifting the energy in your home from eggshell walking to excitement and feeling like a “normal” family again. I was a highly sensitive child (specifically an anxious, perfectionistic, ADHD girl in the 90s who talked "too much" and was always "distracting"). Here's one thing I wished I had: a parent who really understood me. Instead, I was rejected, dismissed, ridiculed, and told I needed to "try harder" to be what everybody expected of me. Almost 4 decades later, and I'm still healing from the anxious perfectionist who fears if she isn't 'just right' then she'll be 'all wrong'. IYKYK. I know you want to be in your child's corner more than anything. And I also know that parenting your highly sensitive child comes with unique challenges. You need a different road map. ⭐️That's why I'm teaching a class inside my community this Monday, Feb 10th called HELPING YOUR SENSITIVE KID THRIVE. You'll learn more tools for helping your child build their confidence, express themselves in a way that feels good for them, and find more joy in being the bright light that they are. 💬Comment COMMUNITY and I'll send you information about joining our judgment-free, supportive corner on the internet.

Parenting a highly sensitive child comes with challenges, and the way we respond can either support or hinder their regulation. Dismissing, labeling, forcing, or using fear-based tactics only heightens anxiety and meltdowns. Instead, they need understanding, trust, and respect for their limits to build confidence and emotional security. What challenges are you facing raising a sensitive child? Drop a comment below! ⬇️

Highly sensitive kids often feel things deeply and may take others’ words or actions personally…but what if we helped them pause and get curious instead of hurt? Teach them to ask, “What else might be going on in that person’s life?” or “Could this be more about them than me?” By getting curious about what may be going on can help them shift from self-blame to perspective and can be a powerful tool for emotional resilience. #parentingimpossiblepdx #parentcoach #parentinghacks #adhdparenting #behaviortherapy #parenting #anxietyinkids #highlysensitivechild

There's often confusion between highly sensitive and autism. While highly sensitive and autism can share some overlapping traits, they are fundamentally different in how they affect processing, behavior, and interaction with the world. Here's how they differ⬇️ 1️⃣Deep Processing vs. Special Interests 🤍Highly sensitive kids tend to process emotions and experiences deeply, often reflecting on them for a long time. 🩵Autistic kids often have special interests, which are intense, focused passions (e.g., trains, space, or a particular topic), and they may talk about them frequently. 2️⃣Social Preferences vs. Social Communication Differences 🤍Highly sensitive kids may be introverted and prefer deep connections but generally understand social cues and interactions well. 🩵Autistic kids often have differences in social communication, such as difficulty with small talk, interpreting tone of voice, or maintaining eye contact. 3️⃣ Stimming (Self-Regulation Behaviors) 🤍Highly sensitive kids may not engage in repetitive self-soothing behaviors. 🩵Autistic kids often use stimming (hand-flapping, rocking, humming, etc.) to self-regulate emotions and sensory input. 4️⃣Overstimulation vs. Sensory Regulation Challenges 🤍Highly sensitive kids may get overwhelmed in chaotic environments but can often recover with alone time or a quiet space. 🩵Autistic kids may experience meltdowns (intense emotional outhursts due to overstimulation) or shutdowns (withdrawal and inability to respond) when overwhelmed. My daughter is highly sensitive and I know many people with autistic children. No two highly sensitive or autistic kids are exactly the same. My goal isn't to label, but to help parents better understand their child's needs. Whether your child is highly sensitive, autistic, or somewhere in between, supporting them with patience and empathy is truly what matters. #childdevelopment #childhood #highlysensitivechild #autism #braindevelopment #parenting #motherhood #toddlermom #inclusion

Parenting a sensitive child? 💛 First, let’s get one thing straight—sensitivity is NOT a flaw. It’s not something to be “fixed.” Sensitive kids are deeply empathetic, intuitive, and emotionally aware. When nurtured the right way, their sensitivity can be a superpower! ✨ Signs You Have a Sensitive Child 🧸💡 ✔️ Easily overwhelmed by loud noises, bright lights, or strong smells ✔️ Deeply affected by emotions—both theirs and others’ ✔️ Needs extra time to adjust to changes or new environments ✔️ Strong reactions to criticism or raised voices ✔️ Loves deep, meaningful conversations—even at a young age ✔️ Gets overstimulated in social situations but thrives in calm, safe spaces How to Support & Empower Them 🤗💡 ✅ Validate their feelings – Instead of saying “Don’t be so sensitive,” try “I understand that felt really big for you.” ✅ Create a calm environment – A quiet, cozy corner can help them recharge when they feel overstimulated. ✅ Teach emotional regulation – Help them name their emotions and find healthy ways to express them. ✅ Avoid harsh discipline – Gentle, respectful communication works better than punishments. ✅ Encourage their strengths – Sensitivity often comes with creativity, deep thinking, and kindness—help them embrace it! ✅ Model emotional intelligence – Show them how to manage emotions by doing it yourself. The goal isn’t to make them “tougher”—it’s to give them tools to thrive in their own way. 💕 Sensitive kids aren’t fragile—they’re incredibly strong in their own unique way. A highly sensitive child [HSC] is one of the fifteen to twenty percent of children born with a nervous system that is highly aware and quick to react to everything. This makes them quick to grasp subtle changes, prefer to reflect deeply before acting, and generally behave conscientiously. They are also easily overwhelmed by high levels of stimulation, sudden changes, and the emotional distress of others (Aron, 2018). . .
