When the high performer at work stops volunteering. You are a high performer at work, always raising your hand to take on more work than you should. Suddenly (or slowly over time) you realize that all this volunteering and taking on more is contributing to your burnout AND not even leading to your career growth. The promotion you’ve been promised never comes. The motivation is not there and as you quickly enter burnout phase you realize you need to stop volunteering all the time. A supportive management team will understand that and work to make sure others are taking on the same workload. A very supportive management team will actually jump in to help if there are not enough hands. . . . . . #highperformer #corporateculture #worklifebalance #corporatelife #corporatemillennial

Here’s why you don’t want to leave important decisions to the end of the day…⁣ Each morning, we wake up with a finite amount of willpower (which some call the ‘active self’). ⁣ ⁣ With every decision that we make throughout the day, and with all the stressors we face, this willpower (our ‘active self’) is depleted bit by bit. This is commonly known as ‘ego depletion’. ⁣ ⁣ By the time we get to the evening, especially if it’s been a highly stressful day, or we’re had to make a lot of complex decisions, our cup is usually near empty. ⁣ ⁣ This could lead to: ⁣ – difficulty making the right decisions, ⁣ – struggling to weigh up trade-offs between two or more options, ⁣ – impulse buying, or ⁣ –other avoidance behaviors. ⁣ ⁣ So now it makes sense why you can make complex decisions at work just fine, yet struggle to decide what to have for dinner 🥘 - I speak from experience here… :😛 ⁣ So, where possible, save the complex and important decisions to the following morning when your cup of willpower has been restored, your battery recharged and your ‘active self’ replenished. ⁣ ⁣ As an aside, a really interesting study in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology found cultural differences when it came to willpower and this concept of ego depletion (Savani & Job, 2017). American participants found exerting willpower depleting, whereas Indian participants found it energizing. So there could be a cultural factor at play, perhaps relating to underlying beliefs or socialisation.⁣ ⁣ What do you think about this? Have you experienced it? 👇⁣ Share your thoughts in the comments!⁣ ⁣ ⁣ (As an aside, I made quite the mess with this video - water was all over the floor hah! 💧)⁣ ⁣ ⁣ Savani, K., & Job, V. (2017). Reverse ego-depletion: Acts of self-control can improve subsequent performance in Indian cultural contexts. You don’t have to argue with a toxic boss to win. Sometimes the smartest move is emotional control, quiet strategy, and letting your consistency speak. High performers don’t fight chaos — they outgrow it. Save this if you’re protecting your peace while planning your next move. #workplaceculture #toxicboss #careerboundaries #emotionalintelligence #highperformer #leadershipmindset #womeninleadership #professionalgrowth

High performers don’t burn out because the work is hard. They burn out because nothing makes sense. The goals keep changing. The feedback contradicts itself. The rules are unclear — but the expectations aren’t. If you’ve been working harder hoping clarity will eventually appear, this isn’t a motivation problem. It’s a systems problem. Save this if it put words to something you’ve been feeling. Follow for corporate clarity no one explains #corporatelife #burnout #highachievers #highperformer #corporatewomen

And it’s NOT that they have easy “low stress” jobs What they do is very challenging And they love what they do!! But even with good boundaries around their time, they know that’s not enough Because what they have to not just move through pressures with more calm, & disconnect mentally is… ✅ Workplace Emotional Intelligence This changed everything for me In the way I show up, respond and FEEL And it wasn’t about “caring less,” we know we can care deeply without having 24/7 work thoughts (Plus if you’re ambitious it’s not in your DNA to not care) It’s caring in a way that didn’t sacrifice my health So an unhappy client no longer makes me question my skills and capabilities A business set back no longer sends me into a week long spiral Being ghosted doesn’t have me ruminating on everything I “should have said” A hard day at work doesn’t make me a mean spouse I can let go of what’s outside of my control and put my energy towards where I add the most value Taking control of my reactions, knowing full well I can’t control someone else’s emotions This skill has transformed so much for me as a person, partner, friend and leader You can have all the productivity hacks, sign off at 6pm and take weekends off But those won’t do much until we build your emotional intelligence at work - a true game changer 🥰 I have FOUR spots open for 1:1 private mentorship this month Specifically for high performing leaders who love what they do but know they need to break the emotional attachment so they can be more present in AND outside of work ✨ ✅ Comment MENTOR for a link to apply (serious applicants only - don’t comment if you’re not) #highperformance #highperformancecoach #highperformer #burnoutprevention

Want to know what makes some people magnetic without even trying? It’s not about being charming or funny. It’s about tiny shifts that make people feel seen, heard, and comfortable around you. I read a great article by Alex Mathers on Medium today and found this really fascinating. He chose 11 behaviors, but these were my favorite 5: 1. Wait one second before responding. That micro pause makes you seem thoughtful instead of reactive. It stops you from interrupting, which people hate way more than they admit. 2. Let awkward silences breathe. Most people panic and fill every gap with nervous chatter. When you can sit in silence without fidgeting, you signal confidence that others find magnetic. 3. Remember the small details. Bring up something they mentioned weeks ago like “How did that presentation go?” This proves you were actually listening, which is rarer than you think. 4. Complain less than everyone around you. Even when you have legitimate reasons to complain, being the lighthearted one is addictively refreshing in this stressful world. 5. Disagree occasionally but don’t be difficult about it. Nodding along to everything makes you forgettable. Thoughtful disagreement shows you’re actually thinking, not just performing niceness. If this sounds like you and you want to feel more confident in social situations, pick one of these to practice this week. When you do, you’ll notice people seeking you out more and conversations feeling easier instead of exhausting. If you’re new here, I’m Roz, a positive psychologist. This space is for evidence based tools that work to help you build resilience, become more confident, reduce anxiety, and enjoy more purpose and live your best life. 🧠🧠 #mindsetofexcellence #highperformer

Struggled to focus lately? I’m guessing your phone was on your desk… Am I right???⁣ ⁣ Try putting the phone away!⁣ ⁣ Two studies have found that having a phone in eye-sight (even if it’s face down or off) reduces your brain power. ⁣ ⁣ What we know is that our brain has a finite capacity for cognitive processing. There’s only so much available brain power to help us stay focussed on task. ⁣ ⁣ When our smartphone is in sight (especially if we tend to rely on our device for our work), it drains our attentional reserves. ⁣ ⁣ Why? Because we’re constantly thinking:⁣ ⁣ “I wonder what that notification was…” ⁣ “Have any emails come through?” ⁣ “I wonder if anything has happened on IG lately…”⁣ “Maybe I’ll just quickly check WhatsApp…”⁣ ⁣ And even when we do successfully resist checking our phone (called ‘inhibiting automatic attention’), that still uses up cognitive power! ⁣ ⁣ So the short story is…⁣ ⁣ If you need to focus, put your phone out of sight.⁣ ⁣ You can thank me later 😉⁣ ⁣ Do you struggle to focus when your phone is visible on your desk?👇 (I do…)⁣ ⁣ ⁣ 📚 Research: ⁣ Ward, A. F., Duke, K., Gneezy, A., & Bos, M. W. (2017). Brain drain: The mere presence of one’s own smartphone reduces available cognitive capacity. You are a threat to them. The biggest mistake I made with my toxic boss? Trying to prove I was valuable…. when they already knew. They weren’t confused about my worth. They were threatened by it. High performers fall into this trap all the time: we overdeliver, overexplain, overwork… hoping fairness will reward effort. But in a toxic dynamic, your competence can evolve from being your strong point to the reason they want you gone. It is as crazy as it sounds. Once you stop trying to prove and start protecting your energy, things can finally shift. They lose control. You rebuild. If you’re a high performer stuck in a toxic workplace and ready to rise again - in a room full of others doing the same - 👉 comment ELEVATE below ⬇️ Let’s rebuild your power. Together. ✨Follow @corporate_warriors if you’re a high performer who wants career success without selling your soul.
