Most people shop for a hiking pack by looking at pockets… but the real game-changer is something you *don’t* always notice at first. This pack has an **external frame**, and that’s exactly why it stays comfortable even after a full day on the trail. Instead of all the weight sitting on your shoulders, the frame helps distribute it evenly and keeps airflow between your back and the pack. If you’re getting into hiking or upgrading your gear, don’t just count compartments — **check the frame**. It can make the difference between ending your hike feeling strong… or completely drained. Comfort = more miles, better views, and way more fun out there ⛰️✨ #hikinggear #backpackingtips #hikingessentials #outdooradventure #hikinglife trailtips gearreview backpackingtips optoutside adventuremore dayhike hikingcommunity

Before you step out the door for your hike, stop and check how you’re wearing your backpack. Comfort is key when it comes to making sure you can last through your whole backpacking trip. You can pack and prepare all your gear in the right ways, but you can easily get more tired, strained, or even prone to injury than you have to be if you wear your pack wrong. So, make a checklist of these small things to correct your backpack’s fit: - Check your shoulders: Is your backpack making contact with it, or is it hanging off them? - Check your hipbone: Is it right on your hipbone, above, or below it? - Check your shoulder straps on the front: Do you feel like the load is heavy on them? - Check your traps: Do you feel tension? And always remember: it’s all in the hips. If you want more quick but essential backpacking and camping tips, stick around! We’re dedicating this year to helping you get outdoors on either your first or bigger and better hiking trips.

If your hiking backpack feels uncomfortable, it’s usually not the pack — it’s the adjustment. Remember WSLS 😝 when adjusting your hiking pack: Waist strap – about 80% of the weight should sit on your hipsShoulder straps – pull the pack close to your bodyLoad lifters – stabilize the load so it doesn’t pull backwardSternum strap – helps balance the pack and keeps straps from digging in Proper backpack adjustment can make a huge difference in comfort, especially on longer hikes or when carrying more weight. And don’t forget to readjust your pack throughout the hike as weight shifts, you drink water, eat snacks, or change layers. Do you adjust your pack during hikes, or just set it once and go? #hikinggear #hikingbackpack #hikergirl @cotopaxi

you asked! 👀 what day backpack should YOU have? anddd, honestly it depends... on the hike, the distance, and where you're hiking. whether if you need to bring additional essentials + gear but if there's one piece of advice I'd give you... GO INTO A STORE and try a few on. seriously, a backpack can make or break your hike! I rotate between three backpacks (four if you include multi-day backpack) depending on the season + type of hike, and each one has its own purpose: REI FLASH 22 👉🏼 my go-to for short + easy hikes • suuuuper light (14oz) • sleeve for a 3L hydration pack • zippered pockets and side stash pockets • hip belt + sternum strap • whistle built into the sternum strap REI TRAIL 25 👉🏼 my favorite for longer/ all-day hikes • comes with a rain cover (love this) • side pockets for water + essentials • trekking pole attachments • sleeve for a 3L hydration pack • hip belt + sternum strap • whistle built into the sternum strap • more pockets = more organization REI TRAIL 40 👉🏼 my winter daypack • lots of storage + organization • straps for bulkier gear (like snowshoes) • trekking poles attachments • sleeve for a 3L hydration pack • include rain cover • hip belt + sternum belt, built in whistle REI TRAVERSE 60 not in this video but I use this for overnight/ multi-day trips. I van do a full breakdown in another reel!! hope this helps you figure out what works best for YOU! ✨ #hikingbackpack #asl #lifeoutdoors

Backpack sizes don’t need to be complicated. For backpacking trips, a 55L pack is a great target. Anywhere from about 50–60L works well for most people. Could you go bigger like a 70L? Sure. But in my experience, if you have 70 liters of space… you’ll pack 70 liters of stuff. For day hikes, I like something in the 20–30L range. That gives you room for water, food, extra layers, and the 10 essentials without overpacking. If I could only pick one day pack size, it would be 30L. It works year round and gives you extra space in winter when you’re carrying heavier layers. And those sub-20L packs? They’re great for short hikes or fast missions, but a lot of people end up leaving out some of the essentials just to make everything fit. Pick the pack that fits the type of hiking you actually do, not just the smallest one you can get away with. What size pack do you usually hike with?

Items you should always carry in your hiking pack🥾🎒 1. Water is essential for every hike! (duh, I know) Bring enough for the whole trip and consider a water filter if you think you could possibly run out. 2. Navigation tools keep you safe. Carry a map, compass, or GPS device to avoid getting lost. 3. Layered clothing helps you stay comfortable in changing weather. Pack some extra layers! 4. Snacks and energy foods keep your body fueled. Trail mix or energy bars are easy and lightweight 😋 5. Safety items like a small first aid kit, headlamp, and multi-tool can help in emergencies! (And of course bear spray if you’re hiking in bear country) 🐻 Save this guide for your next hike and make sure your backpack has everything you need! 🎒🥾🏔️ Disclaimer: of course every hike is different. Terrain, climate, and personal experience may change what you actually need. These are just solid basics that cover most situations and are a good starting point for planning any outdoor adventure! #hiking #hikingessentials #hikinggear #hikingpack #backpack
