ಪರಶುರಾಮನು ತನ್ನ ತಾಯಿಯ ಶಿರವನ್ನು ಕಡಿದ ಕಥೆಯು ಪಿತೃಭಕ್ತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಧರ್ಮದ ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಯನ್ನು ಸಾರುವ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪೌರಾಣಿಕ ಕಥೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಕಥೆಯ ವಿವರಗಳು ಹೀಗಿವೆ:
ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆ: ಜಮದಗ್ನಿ ಮಹರ್ಷಿ ಮತ್ತು ರೇಣುಕಾ ದೇವಿಯ ಐವರು ಪುತ್ರರಲ್ಲಿ ಪರಶುರಾಮನು ಕಿರಿಯವನು. ರೇಣುಕಾ ದೇವಿಯು ಪ್ರತಿದಿನ ತುಂಗಭದ್ರಾ ನದಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಮರಳಿನಿಂದ ಕುಂಭವನ್ನು (ಮಡಕೆ) ಮಾಡಿ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ನೀರನ್ನು ತರುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.
ಘಟನೆ: ಒಂದು ದಿನ ನದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಗಂಧರ್ವ ದಂಪತಿಗಳ ಜಲಕ್ರೀಡೆಯನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ರೇಣುಕೆಯ ಮನಸ್ಸು ಕ್ಷಣಕಾಲ ಚಂಚಲವಾಯಿತು. ಈ ಕಾರಣದಿಂದ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಅಂದು ಮರಳಿನ ಮಡಕೆಯನ್ನು ಮಾಡಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಇದರಿಂದ ತಡವಾಗಿ ಆಶ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆ ಹಿಂದಿರುಗಿದಾಗ, ಜಮದಗ್ನಿ ಮಹರ್ಷಿಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ತಪೋಶಕ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ನಡೆದ ವಿಷಯವನ್ನು ತಿಳಿದು ತೀವ್ರ ಕ್ರೋಧಗೊಂಡರು.
ಪಿತೃ ಆಜ್ಞೆ: ಕೋಪಗೊಂಡ ಜಮದಗ್ನಿಯು ತನ್ನ ಮೊದಲ ನಾಲ್ವರು ಪುತ್ರರಿಗೆ ತಾಯಿಯ ಶಿರಚ್ಛೇದ ಮಾಡಲು ಆದೇಶಿಸಿದರು. ಆದರೆ ತಾಯಿಯ ಮೇಲಿನ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಿಂದ ಅವರು ನಿರಾಕರಿಸಿದರು. ಕೊನೆಯದಾಗಿ ಪರಶುರಾಮನಿಗೆ ಆದೇಶಿಸಿದಾಗ, ಆತನು ತಂದೆಯ ಆಜ್ಞೆಯನ್ನು ಮೀರುವುದು ಧರ್ಮವಲ್ಲವೆಂದು ಭಾವಿಸಿ ಕೊಡಲಿಯಿಂದ ತನ್ನ ತಾಯಿ ಮತ್ತು ಆಜ್ಞೆಯನ್ನು ವಿರೋಧಿಸಿದ ಸಹೋದರರ ಶಿರವನ್ನು ಕಡಿದನು.
ವರದಾನ: ಪರಶುರಾಮನ ಪಿತೃಭಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಕಂಡು ಪ್ರಸನ್ನರಾದ ಜಮದಗ್ನಿ ಮಹರ್ಷಿಗಳು ವರವನ್ನು ಕೇಳಲು ಹೇಳಿದರು. ಆಗ ಪರಶುರಾಮನು ತನ್ನ ತಾಯಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಹೋದರರನ್ನು ಪುನರ್ಜೀವಿತಗೊಳಿಸುವಂತೆ ಹಾಗೂ ತಾನು ಅವರನ್ನು ಕೊಂದ ನೆನಪು ಯಾರಿಗೂ ಇರದಂತೆ ಬೇಡಿಕೊಂಡನು. ತಂದೆಯ ಅನುಗ್ರಹದಿಂದ ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಮತ್ತೆ ಬದುಕಿದರು.
ಪ್ರಾಯಶ್ಚಿತ್ತ: ತಾಯಿಯನ್ನು ಕೊಂದ ಪಾಪದ ದ್ಯೋತಕವಾಗಿ ಪರಶುರಾಮನ ಕೈಗೆ ಕೊಡಲಿಯು ಅಂಟಿಕೊಂಡಿತು. ನಂತರ ಅವರು ವಿವಿಧ ಪವಿತ್ರ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಿಗೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡಿ ಅರುಣಾಚಲ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ಪರಶುರಾಮ ಕುಂಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ನಾನ ಮಾಡಿದಾಗ ಮಾತ್ರ ಕೊಡಲಿಯು ಕೈಯಿಂದ ಬಿಡುಗಡೆಯಾಯಿತು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

1458 yılında William of Waynflete tarafından kurulan kolej, gotik mimarisi ile ön plana çıkıyor. Kolej, dönemin eğitim ve dini reformlarının bir parçası olarak kuruluyor.
Zaman içerisinde akademik camiada sembol bir yapı haline gelen kolej, özellikle Magdalen Tower ile dikkat çekiyor. 1509 yılında tamamlanan 44 metre yüksekliğindeki kule, İngiltere'nin en önemli Gotik yapılarından biri olup her yıl 1 Mayıs'ta düzenlenen geleneksel koro etkinliğine ev sahipliği yapıyor. Şehrin doğu girişine hakim olan kule, Magdalen Köprüsü üzerinde yükselerek pitoresk bir manzaraya açılıyor.
Kolejin kampüsü; geniş ve bakımlı bahçeleri, iç avluları ve tarihi binalarıyla dikkat çekiyor. Gotik üsluptaki College Hall ve Chapel’de, 15. yüzyıldan kalma vitray pencereleri ve ayrıntılı taş işçiliği olduğu görülüyor.

One of the most prestigious buildings of Oxford University; Magdalen College
Founded in 1458 by William of Waynflete, the college stands out with its gothic architecture. The college was founded as part of the educational and religious reforms of the period.
The college, which has become a symbol in the academic community over time, draws attention especially with the Magdalen Tower. Completed in 1509, the 44-meter-high tower is one of the most important Gothic buildings in England and hosts the traditional choir event held every year on May 1st. Dominating the eastern entrance to the city, the tower rises above Magdalen Bridge and opens up to a picturesque view.
The college campus is characterized by its large and well-kept gardens, courtyards and historic buildings. The Gothic-style College Hall and Chapel feature 15th-century stained glass windows and elaborate stonework.
