تری ای. دیویس، مهندس نرمافزار آمریکایی و یکی از چهرههای خاص و فراموشنشدنی دنیای تکنولوژی بود. او مدرک کارشناسی ارشد در مهندسی برق را از دانشگاه ایالتی آریزونا دریافت کرد و برای مدتی در شرکتهای بزرگی مثل Ticketmaster کار کرد.
اما زندگی او تغییر بزرگی کرد؛ در سال ۱۹۹۶، دچار اسکیزوفرنی شد و این بیماری تاثیر عمیقی بر شخصیت و کارهایش گذاشت. در عین حال، او ادعا میکرد که با خدا ارتباط دارد و همین باور، الهامبخش ساخت یک سیستمعامل منحصر بهفرد شد: TempleOS.
تری به تنهایی در طول ۱۰ سال، این سیستمعامل را از صفر با زبان برنامهنویسی مخصوص خودش به نام HolyC نوشت. TempleOS ترکیبی از هنر، کد و اعتقاد بود. او عقیده داشت که این سیستمعامل معبدی برای صحبت با خداست.
با وجود بیماری روانی، نبوغ او در کدنویسی، طراحی سیستم و شناخت عمیقش از سختافزار و نرمافزار، الهامبخش هزاران برنامهنویس در سراسر دنیاست.
او در سال ۲۰۱۸ به طور غمانگیزی درگذشت، اما میراثش همچنان زنده است.
