GIThis post captures an industrial process called hydro dipping, also known as water transfer printing or hydrographics. This technique is used to apply intricate designs and patterns to three-dimensional objects, such as phone cases, automotive parts, and various gadgets.
The Hydro Dipping Process
The process is relatively simple in principle:
Film Placement: A water-soluble film (made of PVA) with a pre-printed pattern is carefully placed on the surface of a water bath.
Activation: A chemical activator is sprayed onto the film, which dissolves the PVA and liquefies the ink, leaving it floating on the water’s surface.
Dipping: The item to be decorated is slowly submerged through the floating ink layer at an angle (usually 45 degrees), and the water’s surface tension causes the ink to wrap perfectly around the object’s contours.
Finishing: The dipped item is then rinsed to remove any residual film material and is later sealed with a protective clear coat for durability and UV protection.
