DRUpper lip lifting can be truly transformational. At a certain age, the lip becomes elongated, and we lose fat and bony support of the lower face which creates an even longer appearing upper lip. Fillers can be helpful, but at a certain age they just don’t do what we are trying to achieve, which is create a more appealing red line to the lip and decrease the distance from the upper lip border to the bottom of the nose.
The most important part of performing a lip lift are the measurements which need to be performed quite meticulously. I tend to be a bit more conservative in the amount of lip that I remove so that my patience do not look overdone or appear to have had an obvious lip lift, or what others may think is too much filler. The procedure in this case was performed along with other facial procedures, so I placed this patient under anesthesia, however, this procedure can be performed under local anesthesia as well. The final step in the lip lift procedure is meticulous closure of the incision sites.
Healing is generally 2 weeks and even though the incisions are well hidden there can still be a minimally noticeable line for several weeks which eventually dissipates.
