ID“Is It Reel?” 2024
Surreal photocollage animation
Two years ago, I created this piece as a surreal visual narrative exploring memory/history, culture, and a time where the world witnessed many humanitarian laws violated, yet no actions were taken.
The work follows a protagonist drifting through a dreamlike landscape where symbols from different histories intertwine: the keffiyeh as a sign of resistance and solidarity, Egyptian scarabs representing rebirth, Jaffa oranges and olive trees carrying the weight of Palestinian heritage, and the ferris wheel symbolizing a film reel of the crisis that the world continues to see in a loop.
Today, it feels necessary to reshare it. We are living through moments where unbearable realities are unfolding before the world’s eyes: genocide, attacks, and even documented files of child abuse, all circulating globally while meaningful action feels painfully absent.
Being UAE-born Egyptian living in Dubai, this city remains my home even as conflicts escalate across the region. At the same time, my roots remain deeply planted in the culture and history that shaped me. Resharing this work now felt like way of expressing my solidarity with all countries affected including Iran, Lebanon, and Palestine. 🕊️ #surrealism #palestine #animation #explore
