DOSilicone dolls — especially hyper-realistic ones used as mannequins, art pieces, therapy tools, or even companion dolls — are crafted with precision and detail. The process begins with sculpting a master model, usually from clay or digital 3D modeling, to shape the body, face, and features. Artists often use real human references to get proportions and expressions accurate. Once the sculpt is approved, a mold is created, typically using fiberglass or metal, which will later hold the silicone.
High-grade silicone is poured into the mold to create the doll’s skin. Silicone is used because it mimics human skin’s softness, elasticity, and texture. It’s also durable and safe for human contact. Pigments are mixed into the silicone for realistic skin tones, and after curing (hardening), the doll is demolded and assembled. Artisans then spend hours or even days painting details by hand — freckles, veins, shading, and even slight imperfections to enhance realism.
The finishing touches include implanting hair strand by strand (usually using real or synthetic hair), inserting eyes, attaching limbs, and sometimes adding articulated joints or metal skeletons for movement. Clothing and accessories are added based on the doll’s purpose. The final product is not just a doll, but a carefully crafted art piece that can cost hundreds to thousands of euros or dollars depending on size, customization, and realism
