WOIan Devaney, frontman of Nation of Language, thought about the push and pull of emotion in electronic music when working on the New York band's latest album, Dance Called Memory.
"I've read about how Kraftwerk wanted to remove all of the humanity from their music, but [Brian] Eno often spoke about wanting to make synthesized music that felt distinctly human," Devaney says in the album's liner notes. "As much as Kraftwerk is a sonically foundational influence, with this record I leaned much more towards the Eno school of thought. That this thing should be as unvarnished and warm as possible."
In this session, the Brooklyn band perform songs from Dance Called Memory in a mini-concert recorded exclusively for World Cafe. Enjoy.

A música que literalmente levou Lisa ao redor do mundo quatro vezes.
Lisa cresceu ouvindo Barry White, Diana Ross e Marvin Gaye que a mãe tocava em casa. Anos depois, em 1992, gravou "All Around the World" em dueto com o próprio Barry White, um sonho realizado!
A música foi número 1 no Reino Unido por duas semanas e chegou ao top 3 nos Estados Unidos. Detalhe importante: Lisa se tornou a segunda mulher branca a chegar ao topo da parada R&B americana, depois de Teena Marie.
O álbum "Affection" vendeu 4,5 milhões de cópias. Lisa ganhou Brit Award, Billboard Music Award, Ivor Novello Award e foi indicada ao Grammy em duas categorias.
Lisa disse que ao longo dos anos muita gente contou que a música ajudou em momentos difíceis. "É lindo saber que você ajudou alguém dessa forma."
Ela brinca: "Você tem que tomar cuidado com o que canta, porque pode ser que tenha que fazer isso." E ela fez... cantou essa música pelo mundo inteiro.
