This is why your midwife/lactation consultant will advice you to practice exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months. As your baby grows, so does their stomach grows and breast milk production increases. Best and worst bottles for your baby? When we are looking for a bottle we want an option that will: 1. Pass the triangle test (@kayleerabaja) 2. Wide base with gradual slope from base to nipple tip 3. Slow flow nipple Coupled with side lying paced bottle feeding and it’s a match made in heaven. #lactationhub #ibclc #breastfeeding #bottlefeeding #formulafeeding

This is called an O-ball, and it's a great tool for building bottle skills 🍼 It's wonderful for a baby who is 3-4 months old and already grabbing toys and bringing them to their mouth. Here's how it works: you thread a bottle nipple through one of the smaller holes on the O-ball. The baby can hold the ball, bring it to their mouth, and practice sucking on the nipple without needing to take a full feeding. While they play with the ball, they're learning the mechanics of bottle feeding without all the pressure. And don't worry: sucking on an empty nipple does not make your baby gassy! You might hear the sound of air moving through the nipple hole, but they are not swallowing that air. It's just the sound of suction. This is one of the strategies I use when we're working on bottle refusal with breastfed babies. It helps them build comfort and competence with the bottle without the stress of feeding time. Have you tried the O-ball? Let me know in the comments. #ibclc #bottleskills #bottlerefusal #lactationproblems #lactationsupport

LOOOOK at that composition change 🤯 I did a lil experiment the other day when I was saving up some milk for C and thought the visual was so helpful. Our breastmilk changes throughout the day. In the mornings prolactin levels are higher (milk making hormone) so you’ll usually see higher amounts of milk. Our milk is more “watery” at this time to rehydrate your baby hence the cool blue hue you may get in your bottle. As the day moves along and milk removal happens more often, that watery component tends to lessen and we start to see less output. You will ALSO notice a thicker, creamier look to your milk. These two things go hand in hand and are NORMAL - it happens because the fat content increases. If you’re making enough for your baby (or however much you want to make bc you’re supplementing by choice) this isn’t an issue.    If you’re struggling with your supply + it is TOO low (aka not enough to feed your babe and you’re having to supplement) comment “GUIDE” and I’ll send you details for my low supply guide.    #ibclc #lactationconsultant #breastfeedingmama #breastfeeding

Hi 👋 it’s Emily — Family Nurse Practitioner, IBCLC, mom to 3 girls, and co-founder of @nurturebynaps Let’s talk about how the TROVE works and how you can use it to collect breastmilk during the day. 🍼 The TROVE uses gentle suction to catch milk from your natural let-down on the side your baby isn’t nursing from. That milk is often released anyway, and this lets you collect it instead of losing it to a pad. When baby switches sides, you switch the TROVE too. In this video, I’m demoing how you can collect milk throughout the day and add it to the FROSH to keep it cold. By the evening, you may have enough milk for your partner to give a bottle — or you can bag and freeze it to save for later. ✨ Key things to know: • Everyone collects a different amount — and that’s okay • Some people collect enough for a bottle in one session • Some need several sessions in a day • Some may need a few days • You don’t have to wear it for every feeding session unless you want to • The TROVE comes with a cap if you use it at night and want to set it on your nightstand or pop it in the fridge • It’s also a great tool for relieving engorgement and supporting clogged ducts Feeding your baby is a lot of work however you slice it. And I love a good tip or tool that actually makes a mom’s life easier. This is one of those. You’re just catching milk your body is already releasing during feeds. Basically… doing nothing. Low effort. High impact. 💛 And I’m always here for that.

Have you hit the distracted phase of breastfeeding? Long gone are those relaxing feeds and in replace are the chats, smiles and non stop exposure 🤣 This is very normal and usually starts around 3 to 4months. This is a great sign developmentally, they are aware of their surroundings, engaging in chat! Most of the sleep advice we hear feels universal… But it’s not. For many cultures around the world: Night waking is expected.
Bedsharing is normal.
Responsive feeding is encouraged.
And “cry it out”?
Barely exists. Because biologically speaking — babies aren’t designed to sleep alone. They’re designed to sleep close. Close to the breast.
Close to warmth.
Close to regulation.
Close to safety. So when your baby wakes… When they need feeding, holding, or reassurance… You’re not creating bad habits. You’re responding exactly how human babies have been cared for across generations and cultures. You’re not doing sleep wrong. You’re just parenting outside a very Western lens. I’d love to know — how does this make you feel about your little one’s sleep? Relieved?
Validated?
