This construction robot is 10x faster than humans. Normally when human does finishing work in construction, they have to wear a mask because of the small particles that come off of walls while spraying, sanding, and puttying them. These particles slow workers down and can irritate eyes and lungs. Pace Robotics aims to fix this. They claim their robot can do this paint, putty, and sanding process 10x faster than humans can with 80% less manpower, and 3 to 5x lower cost. So far, Pace Robotics has completed seven projects covering 100,000 square feet. Their robot is also modular, allowing customers to swap out parts for various jobs. Their robot is also able to dynamically map out the workspace without a floor plan. Pace Robotics was incubated at the SINE Incubator at IIT Bombay, and they’re backed by Pidilite Industries.

Instead of walking, rolling, or crawling, this machine literally grows its body as it moves. Developed by researchers at the Italian Institute of Technology, the robot extends itself using a small 3D-printing head that continuously extrudes thermoplastic material, creating a hollow tube that lengthens like a climbing vine. Because the robot grows from its tip rather than dragging its entire body forward, it can slip through narrow cracks, wrap around obstacles, and navigate spaces that would stop most traditional robots. That ability could make it incredibly useful for search-and-rescue missions, disaster zones, underground tunnels, or any environment that’s too dangerous or too tight for humans to reach.
