Thanks to Mirriam from @upmcinireland Outreach Center in Carlow for organising a terrific educational event with @maryrose_devro and the energy in the room was awesome. DRWhat a honour it was to be at the book launch of Francus Toomey’s book ‘Cannock’s @omahonysbooks in Limerick last night
As I watched her speak with no notes for at least 20 minute on dates and details of Limerick’s history I marvelled at the empowered woman that she is and how women like her are wonderful mentors to us all.
They have helped us take the leap through a more equal society by leading the way for us
It was lovely to see it such a family affair and to see her children Ellen, Gerry and Suzanne so proud of her as were her extended family.
It was lovely to meet Richard from @i_love_limerick_x who did an excellent job as usual in recording the momentous event
It was also great to meet Cathy O Halloran who has done Limerick proud over the years @rtenews
All the proceeds are for Motor Neurone Disease.

DRIt is the end of an era
Barringtons Hospital closed today and moved to Bon Secours new Hospital Ballysimon @bonsecourslimerick
It was a very emotional day
We think of all the wonderful staff and patients who were in this wonderful Hospital and who are with us and also those who have passed on and whose memories we hold dear
We think especially of the late Paul O Byrne who set up Barringtons Hospital and his amazing vision for Limerick and the surrounding area
I am still waiting for Limerick Council to put up a staue to commemorate this wonderful surgeon
I still recall getting the phone call when I had just finished training on the Specialist Register to become a Consultant Endocrinologist and he asked me to come to Barringtons Hospital. His enthusiasm persuaded me and I never looked back.
I was very lonely and emotional today but like everything we have to move on and bring the beautiful memories with us.
We will forever keep Barringtons Hospital in our hearts and all those wonderful people who passed through
