You showed up to swing a hammer, run some wire, or turn a wrench like every other Tuesday... and now the whole crew’s acting like you’re the second coming of the shop foreman.
One day you fix a busted pump nobody else could figure out, next thing you know the boss is saying “Hey, you’re on point for the shutdown,” and the office is cc’ing you on emails with words like “coordination” and
“accountability.”
Suddenly you’ve got apprentices trailing you asking questions, the safety guy wants your sign-off, and the supplier’s calling YOUR cell because “you know what we actually need.”
You didn’t sign up to carry the radios, the punch list, AND the unspoken pressure of “if this goes sideways it’s on you, bud.”
Now every “quick favor” feels like a test, every shortcut someone else takes lands on your shoulders to fix, and you catch yourself actually giving a damn whether the job gets buttoned up right.
You just wanted overtime and a cold one at knock-off.
Instead you got responsibility, a radio that never stops crackling, and the sinking feeling you might be turning into “that guy” everybody used to roast.
Somebody hide the clipboard before it’s too late.
And bring more coffee. Black. Like my soul right now.
