1. LOGIN PROTECTION
- Rate limiting to prevent brute force attacks
- Limit failed attempts / temporary account lock
- CAPTCHA for suspicious activity
2. SIGNUP & VERIFICATION
- Require email verification
- Prevent duplicate accounts
- Always use generic responses
3. SESSION SECURITY
- Use HttpOnly & Secure cookies
- Implement session expiry
- Rotate tokens on login
4. ERROR MESSAGES
- Keep messages generic (e.g., “Invalid credentials”)
- Never reveal whether email or password is wrong
- Never expose user data or internal logic
5. PASSWORD RESET FLOW
- Use expiring, single-use tokens
- Don’t reveal if email exists
- Invalidate old sessions after reset
6. MULTI-FACTOR AUTH (MFA)
- Support OTP / authenticator apps
- Enable for sensitive actions
7. BACKEND & API SECURITY
- Validate everything on the server
- Protect against injection attacks
- Use secure authentication middleware
8. LOGGING & MONITORING
- Track failed login attempts
- Detect unusual activity (location/device)
- Alert on suspicious behavior
9. AUTHORIZATION (ACCESS CONTROL)
- Implement role-based access (RBAC)
- Never rely only on frontend checks
