When I decided a few years ago to open up about my struggle with #OCD, I didn’t anticipate the incredible outpouring of support — and words of encouragement from other people going through it. One of the first messages came from Rachel Crofut at @iocdf, thanking me for raising awareness and inviting me to their OCD walk in Boston. It was the start of a wonderful relationship with a profoundly important organization. They’ve given me a community, helped me better understand OCD, and supported the launch of @theocdconfessional. Right by my side through all of that has been my brilliant, beautiful wife @leelee237, who also happens to be a clinical psychologist. I often joke I’m her No. 1 patient, and the funniest jokes are the ones with a touch of truth in them. She has stood by me through the ups and downs, and I honestly don’t think I would have weathered them without her. So when @bdeusser at the IOCDF reached out to me a few months ago to ask if my wife and I wanted to be the keynote speakers at this year’s global conference in Seattle, it was an immediate yes. We are incredibly honored to share our experience as a couple navigating OCD — what has worked for us, what has tripped us up, and how humor has been our saving grace. We’ll hope you’ll join us — July 9-12 in Seattle. I have a link in my bio to register. If you can’t make the trip, please consider supporting the IOCDF. They are saving lives and can use all the help they can get. See you in Seattle! #iocdf #ocdcon #ocd #obsessivecompulsivedisorder

I used to think the best way to handle the intrusive thoughts from OCD was to fight against them. But I’ve learned the opposite is true — pushing thoughts away only makes them louder. 📢 Through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), I’ve discovered healthier ways to live with my thoughts, make space for them, and not let them control my life. This is what #TogetherAgainstOCD means to me: breaking old myths about OCD, sharing what really helps, and reminding others that you’re not alone. 👉 Join @iocdf this OCD Awareness Week to shift the story, spread hope, and stand united against stigma. #ocd #ocdawareness #ocdawarenessweek #ocdrecovery #obsessivecompulsivedisorder #intrusivethoughts #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #ocdpodcast #togetheragainstocd #iocdf

RT Braden Smith’s powerful interview is bringing much-needed awareness to Religious Scrupulosity—an often misunderstood form of OCD that latches onto somethings religious/spiritual beliefs and practices. Thank you for your bravery @bradensmith71! Braden vulnerably shares about the fear, isolation, and confusion he experienced—and how, through treatment and support, he found healing. 🙏 Even more incredible? The article accompanying the interview in @indystar links to the @IOCDF Faith & OCD Resource page—a project so many of us poured our hearts into, praying it would reach someone exactly like him. Braden, I’m so proud of your courage in speaking out and offering hope to others who are struggling. ✨ You are not alone.
✨ There is help.
✨ There is hope. I’ve devoted my life, work, and research to scrupulosity with the IOCDF, @vudivinity, SWTI and beyond… and your advocacy means everything to me and to so many!! 💛

Recovery doesn’t mean doing everything alone. Sometimes the biggest shift happens when you notice the people who stayed, supported you, and believed in you even when OCD was loud. If you’re on this journey — you’re not weak, and you’re definitely not alone. 🤍 . . . #ocdawareness #ocdrecovery #intrusivethoughts #mentalhealthcommunity #iocdf

What an amazing week! Our team had the chance to connect, share, and learn alongside incredible researchers, clinicians, families, and changemakers at #IOCDF2025. We presented on family accommodation, externalizing OCD, caregiver challenges, and more—highlighting the work we’re doing to support kids, teens, and young adults with anxiety and OCD. Thanks to everyone who stopped by the booth, joined the conversation, and helped make this such a powerful experience. See you next year! 💙 #IOCDF #OCD #Anxiety #Mentalhealth

The International Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Foundation (IOCDF) has been a huge supporter of mine. They have been focusing on getting more education and resources out in the community to help athletes that deal with anxiety. I join @irontsmalls on his Smalls' Talk Podcast telling my story about my struggle with my OCD on my journey to making it to Olympics to compete in boxing for USA. I hope my story can help all athletes know that they are not alone when it comes to dealing with anxiety. Funny? Sure. But here’s why it’s not actually a joke: When it comes to OCD treatment, the how matters as much as the what. Too many people with OCD spend years in therapy that isn’t evidence-based—sometimes leaving them worse off than before. Here’s the truth: 💡 The gold standard for OCD is Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) — a specific type of CBT, backed by decades of research. 💡 ERP works by helping you face fears without doing compulsions, retraining your brain to see intrusive thoughts as harmless mental noise. 💡 For many, combining ERP with certain medications (like SSRIs or clomipramine) can significantly boost recovery — especially when symptoms are severe. Medication alone can help, but works best when paired with ERP. 💡 Adjunctive therapies like ACT, mindfulness, and DBT skills can help, but they should support ERP—not replace it. 🚫 Treatments to avoid for OCD? Thought-stopping, generic talk therapy, psychodynamic approaches, life coaching, relaxation-only programs, and energy-based therapies—because they don’t target the root of OCD and can actually fuel symptoms. ✅ Bottom line: Ask your provider exactly how they treat OCD, if they use ERP, and how medication might fit into your plan. You deserve treatment that’s grounded in science, not guesswork. Your recovery is possible. But the right treatment makes all the difference. 💙 #OCD #ERP #ACT #OCDRecovery #EvidenceBasedTreatment #IOCDF #PerinatalOCD #OCDTreatment #MaternalMentalHealth #PostpartumOCD #OCDTherapistUtah #UtahMoms #OCDRecovery #OCDTherapy #ERPforOCD #speakthesecret #NOCD #MomMentalHealth #PostpartumWellness #MomsWithOCD #OCDSupport #IntrusiveThoughts #speakthesecret #momsofutah #postpartumanxiety
