ROImmune thrombocytopenic purpura ( ITP) is a rare autoimmune disorder that causes you to have low platelet levels.
Symptoms may include:
skin that bruises very easily
a skin rash of small red dots (petechiae), which does not blanch (go pale) with pressure
bleeding from any area of the body
bleeding from the gums
frequent nosebleeds that take a long time to stop
internal bleeding
long or heavy menstrual periods

BEHow we found out my 3 month old has a rare blood condition called ITP which affects 1 in 10,000 children.
He was showing peteciae all over his face and body so we took him to the ER to get looked at. The doctors took his blood, which resulted in this bruised looking rash on is arm which they found quite unusual.
The results came back showing his platelets were dangerously low and he needed to be admitted and see a hematologist. They diagnosed him with immune thrombocytopenia purpura and hooked him up to a 16 hour dose of IGIV to try get his platelet levels back up.
After the treatment and another blood test the result was his platelets went even lower he was a 17,000 where kids should at 200,000. We were thankfully discharged and are keeping an eye on him and doing all we can to help build his immune system back up (feeding him colostrum and doing grounding) until we are able to get more blood work done and find out the next course of action.
