Well…if you know Jaco Pastorius, you’ve probably heard this one before. This is from Teen Town. I modified the ending of this phrase so it fits just the one chord, which in this case is F or F7 or even Fmaj7.
I love adding these small fills from great Bassists to my vocabulary by adapting them to a single chord. When we learn a song/bassline, we can always choose around 1-3 moments within that line that we really like and make them into short fills like this one. I believe it enriches our vocabulary the same way that reading a great book does for our day to day talk.
