For flights departing Tokyo, JAL serves a $1,400 bottle of Salon Cuvée “S” champagne in first class. That’s a unique offering way above what other airlines offer.
The JAL first class cabin only has 6 suites in a 1-1-1 configuration and they are huge! The suites are 48 inches wide and 83 inches length with 62 inches tall walls. The suites also has a door that fully closes after reaching cruising altitude.
They are 30% larger than the JAL B777 first class and can fit 3 people comfortably. You have your main seat, a side seat, and a large ottoman right across.
The Safran-designed suite is extremely detailed and elegant from the rose red leather to the precision cut Japanese lantern-like gold chrome lamps. Small details include the in seat speakers that actually work! (And they don’t bother your neighbors.)
The JAL suites felt luxurious, solid, and sturdy; they look much better in person than in photos. On the other hand, ANA’s new suites felt too plastic-y and their ottoman was made of a felt fabric that was already fraying.
Each JAL suite has a detachable tablet that felt solid with a very responsive touch screen. You select from a variety of movies and tv shows to watch on the 43-inch 4K screen.
Overall, the new Japan Airlines A350 first class suites is one of the best, if not the best first class suites out there when booking with points!

DA🇳🇿✈️😢 Disappointing Air New Zealand B789 Business class Auckland to Perth
I last flew on @airnz Business class on the B777 2 years ago – while the "worst business class coffin seats" were indeed very dated and lacked privacy as you could literally see everyone in the 1-1-1 layout seats, I found the service and F&B to be great back then!
Thus, when I learnt that AirNZ was launching a new Business class product on their B787s with more privacy, and in a more traditional 1-2-1 layout (with sliding doors only for the bulkhead row), and flying these between NZ and AU on certain days, I jumped on this!
So I made my way all the way from Singapore to Auckland over a weekend, and also bought return flights from Perth, just solely for the reason of flying on this new product. But alas, 2 hours before my flight, I was notified of a plane swap to another B787 (ZK-NZE) as the original B787 (ZK-NZG) was delayed in SYD. In a cruel twist, ZK-NZG was just landing into AKL as I boarded ZK-NZE!
The upsides – the crew were as lovely as ever, and the F&B (both dinner and pre-landing snacks) on board was also pretty delicious. The crew also kindly let me try both appetiser courses! Although the beef fillet was a tad bit too salty. Its also nice that they provide amenity kits by default at each seat. The AirNZ lounge in AKL was also quite crowded on my Saturday evening visit, although the range of F&B was pretty decent, and the lounge has showers too!
Alas for the disappointments – while I understand plane swaps happen for various reasons, which is understandable, I was very disappointed that the AirNZ ground staff in AKL were not able / willing to assist with changing my booking so I could still fly on the new B787 Business class product. On board, the Business class lavatory’s sink also broke halfway through the flight!
What a pity!

LORoyal Dutch Business Experience
This was my first-ever business class flight with KLM, and I’d been waiting a very long time to try them. On this mid-haul journey, I went in with zero expectations — and left seriously impressed.
From the moment I boarded the Boeing 777-300ER, the crew were warm, smiley, and genuinely friendly. The purser personally welcomed me, explained the flight, and set the tone for a relaxed, premium experience.
The new KLM World Business Class suites are fantastic — fully enclosed for privacy, with modern touches like a large touchscreen, massage function, “do not disturb” option, and intuitive storage. The seat was spacious and comfortable, the pillow was big and soft, and bedding was ready if you wanted to rest.
Add to that an easy-to-use remote, a massive HD screen, and a crew that truly enjoyed their work, and you’ve got a business class product worth flying again. Highly recommended.
Ok Part 2 I will share everything I ate, the bed configuration, and all the little gifts I got from the crew.
