Tattooing is an easy extension of pastoring according to Jaye Brix, a tattoo artist and ex-pastor, and Mary B’s guest this week. According to Brix, both vocations require sitting with people in their pain. In this conversation, they discuss how they’ve found community through sharing their truth in videos online, as well as advice on handling hatred that can find its way into the comments section. Jaye argues that putting walls up is not the answer, but rather to stoke one’s inner fire so bright that it instills an unshakeable sense of identity that can’t be dismantled by such comments. Jaye and Mary B also discuss the importance of empathy, the ways in which jealousy can be informative, and reframing our understanding of oft told stories, through the lens of newly understood truths.
