UNThe ultimate rainy day escape in Vermont 🌧️🛝
Thank you @jaypeakresort for inviting us to explore the Pump House Indoor Water Park! It was so much fun to be a kid for the day and get our silly on. 🌊
This is a kids (and big kids) Disney World, right here in Vermont. A variety of slide options from tame to thrill, a relaxing lazy river, soaking wet jungle gyms, and the surf rider make up a perfect mix of activities for all.
We enjoyed the outdoor hot tub with a bevvy and a view of the mountains peak on this goegeous day.
The bar overlooks the waterpark for some pretty spectacular views of the soaring windows and intertwining slides.
So, would I go back? Yes, I definitely would especially on a rainy day or to get away during mud season. Not only is it hot and muggy inside to make you feel like you’ve been swept away to the tropics, but it’s low-key a good workout with all the stairs to the slides. You’ll have fun, screaming your head off or just lounging in the lazy river.
I can imagine the weekends are pretty busy here and we experienced a lot of crowds with wait times for all the slides, but it was nominal. As a 30-year-old with no kids I had fun. Take that for what it’s worth.

Jay Peak is the definition of worth the drive. The farther north you go, the quieter the roads get, the fewer towns you pass, and the more it feels like you’re leaving everything behind. By the time you roll into Jay, you already know you committed — and that’s part of the magic. It feels remote, rugged, and untouched, like winter still runs the show up here. When the snow starts falling, it feels like you earned every turn just by getting there.

Crossing the border and watching the scenery slowly change makes this one feel like a true adventure. The drive builds anticipation — forests, winding roads, and that feeling of heading somewhere completely different. Then suddenly, the village appears, colorful and buzzing, like you’ve road-tripped straight into Europe. Pulling in feels less like arriving at a ski resort and more like arriving at a destination.

Sugarbush is one of those drives that instantly slows you down in the best way. Rolling hills, quiet back roads, snow-covered farms — it feels peaceful long before you click into your skis. There’s no rush here, no chaos, just the sense that you’ve found a place people come to stay awhile. It’s the kind of stop that fits perfectly into a longer road trip where the journey matters just as much as the turns.

The drive to Killington feels like a classic ski road trip — winding roads, small Vermont towns, and that growing sense of excitement as the mountain gets closer. You feel it before you see it. Pulling into Killington feels big and bold, like you’ve arrived at the heart of East Coast skiing. It’s a perfect anchor stop on a road trip when you want long days, full legs, and a true ski-town energy.
📍 Sunday River, Maine
Sunday River feels like the reward at the end of a long drive. Wide open roads, quiet stretches of Maine, and that sense of getting farther from everything with each mile. When you finally arrive, it feels spacious and calm — like there’s room to breathe, explore, and settle in. It’s the kind of place that makes the extra distance feel completely justified, especially when you’re traveling as a family.

This is REALLY bad. Like I genuinely fear my local resort will have to close soon, as they can only blow snow until the new year. After that they’re dipping into the water rights to blow snow for next year, and that’s a risky bet.

RERoom tour time! Welcome to the Hotel Jay 1-Bedroom Suite at Jay Peak Resort! You step into a full-sized kitchen with an island that opens into a dining and living area. There’s a Murphy bed, perfect for the kids. I missed grabbing a picture of it opened, but trust me, it’s super comfy! The living room also features a fireplace under the TV, adding to the cozy vibe. The space feels massive compared to standard hotel rooms and has a layout similar to the Penthouse 1-Bedroom Suite we usually book, the main difference is that we stayed on the 3rd floor instead of the 5th. The bedroom has king-sized bed super comfortable and perfect for crashing after skiing or splashing in the waterpark. There’s a dedicated coat room for all your gear and a generously sized bathroom. EMWe had the best time @jaypeakresort in Jay, VT! We had our wedding reception here 9yrs ago and wanted to share it with our kids. Jay Peak is a ski resort but now that the snow is officially gone they are firing on all cylinders for their summer season. With two kids ages 6 and 2, The Pumphouse indoor waterpark was the main draw for us but there’s a full roster of activities for families. We booked a room package that included waterpark passes with each night we stayed. Here’s what you should know:
🏔️Indoor waterpark-life jackets and towels are plentiful and easy to access.
🏔️The Ice Haus skating rink with public skate hours as well as stick & puck ice times. Rental skates available. *No push crates for littles.
🏔️ An arcade! This was a major highlight for our family. We had too much fun in here.
🏔️ Theres a second arcade, pool tables, a sports bar, a galactic 9-hole minigolf course, an indoor ropes course, and an indoor climbing gym in their Clips & Reels Recreation Gym.
🏔️ Taiga Spa for when you can sneak away from your fam.
🏔️ A golf course ⛳️
🏔️ Tram rides to the top of the mountain
🏔️ Multiple restaurants on site and there were tons of families eating whenever we were so we were in good company at each.
🏔️ A general store on site that has everything you need for one night or for an extended stay. With a family you never know what you’re gonna need and we were grateful for this amenity. There’s also an actual general store (The Jay Country Store) 3 miles down the mountain. But don’t think you’re just going to run to a grocery store, cause no 😂. We brought a cooler of food for the kitchen in our room.
🏔️ The lodging options are kind of endless. They range from your standard hotel room to whole condos and houses for larger parties. We had a two bedroom, two bath suite in the main hotel and it worked out perfectly for our family of 4.
🏔️Plan to hike. It poured the entire wknd we went (so thank goodness for all the indoor activities) but if the rain had let up we would have absolutely hiked. The Northeast Kingdom is gorgeous!
