In order to add more verticality to your angle and increase the discus path which ultimately generates more power, you need to have a large and well timed orbit. In order to achieve that we need to start low at the back of the circle and create the high point when we land in the middle of the circle. The difference between the low and high point will determine the trajectory and angle of the release which in turn will dictate how high or low the disc will fly. Fixing your high point is a very tough task as it can create imbalances that you previously didn’t have. My advice is to take it step by step and adjust your high point by very small increments until you reach your goal.

Steven talks about his strengths as a thrower and how that's played into his throw and helped him become one of the best ever!
Steven highlights his speed and ability to move, which is vital to his success! Mentioning how he has a tendency to lose connection, but because his feet are so fast he is able to catch the discus back again at the release! Also how he feels able to really slam the throw on the finish! While there is an argument that this is pure technique, the ability to find the power in technique is a chellenge on its own! We can point out some things in his technique that harness this ability to be explosive! Such as ground contact, staying relaxed, catching the disc back, etc. The coordination to apply it at the highest level intensity is still a skill!
The main takeaway I want to show is that building your training and technique around what you're already good at will create much better results than focusing on all the things your not good at and how you shouldn't train or throw! So instead of seeing this and thinking "I will now copy Steven Richter's training and strengths" look inward and do some self-research! What you good at naturally? How does your body type contribute to your ability to throw? How do you move? Questions like these will help you and your coach know how best to move forward in a way that is both relevant and efficient! And if you dont know yet, then train and use all sources of feedback and valuable info to help you annswer those questions!

JAHappy Friday, strength and blessings. Whenever i get that feeling i want discus healing. Throwing the discus save my life. It gave me an opportunity to receive a full track and field scholarship, to earn 2 degrees, becoming an all American and travel the world 🌎 Olympic Games, world championships, diamond leagues etc. I Coach myself to many records breaking performance locally and globally and even break and set my former Jamaican record many times. Now i coach elementary and high school throwers. I have coach over 65 high school athletes get D1 and D2 track and field scholarships across America. I have coach 6 international throwers and pro athletes. I coach throwers virtually and face to face, host my own throws camps and clinics and partner with many coaches, schools and track clubs across America and the world. I am thankful and blessed. My ultimate dream is to host a massive throwing camp in Jamaica 🇯🇲 where i can share advanced knowledge and experience to young athletes who have a passion for throwing.
