Even if the AC in a room is set to 18°C, almost everything inside the room—metal, wood, walls, and furniture—eventually reaches the same temperature. But when you touch a metal object, it feels cold, while wood feels warmer. This might make it seem like they are at different temperatures, but in reality they are not. Both objects are at the same room temperature.
What you actually feel is not the temperature itself, but how fast heat moves between your body and the object. Our body temperature is around 36–37°C, which is warmer than the room. When you touch something in a cooler room, heat naturally flows from your body into that object. Metal is a very good conductor of heat, so it quickly pulls heat away from your skin. This rapid loss of heat makes your skin temperature drop suddenly, and your brain interprets that fast heat loss as the sensation of cold.
Wood, on the other hand, is a poor conductor of heat and acts as an insulator. It does not pull heat from your body as quickly as metal does. Because the heat leaves your skin more slowly, your brain does not detect a strong cooling effect, so the wood feels warmer. In reality, both the metal and the wood are at the same temperature—the difference is simply how quickly they take heat from your body.
