Sometimes our items just need a little tlc 💕 Doing a visible repair using embroidery has meant this jumpsuit can be worn again - thank you Carolyn for making the sustainable choice and choosing to repair rather than replace 💚 To do this yourself, you will need: - some scrap fabric - fabric pen or chalk - some embroidery thread - a hand needle - an embroidery hoop - scissors - an iron (not too hot or you’ll make another hole!!) - sewing machine (optional, you could also do the basting stitch by hand!) If you don’t have these - check your local charity shop or ask a friend to borrow the items! Please share so we can all learn together - plus I’m always here if you need any advice ☺️ #sewingtutorial #repairnotreplace #mending #embroidery #howto

[ad] A spot of invisible knit repair! For this mend, I tried out 'Shio' from @itoyarn - a 100% yarn that's thin enough to use on lightweight knits (or held double/triple for thicker fabrics). Worked a treat! 🧶 Want to learn hownto fix your knits? This video demonstrates an ingenious and decorative method for mending a hole in a sock, transforming a common nuisance into a unique piece of needlework. Instead of a simple patch, the artist uses pink thread to embroider a complex, multi-layered snowflake or star pattern directly over the tear. The process begins with basic structural stitches to bridge the gap, which are then meticulously woven and layered to create a thick, symmetrical design. This technique not only fixes the garment but adds a personalized, artistic flair that turns the repair into a prominent feature. It’s a perfect example of "visible mending," a sustainable fashion trend that celebrates the history of our clothes rather than hiding their wear and tear. By using a matching color, the repair blends beautifully with the original fabric while providing a textured, 3D effect that elevates the aesthetic of an everyday item. #VisibleMending #SustainableFashion #EmbroideryLove #DIYRepair #CreativeSewing @bitzcasino

Here’s to treating our clothes with the care and whimsy they deserve ✨. Visible mending using a duplicate stitch on one of my favorite sweaters. I really like how this side turned out - let me know if I should make the other side symmetrical or try something totally new! This sweater is made from a blended yarn of alpaca, nylon and wool. The 100% wool, embroidery thread looks and feels very similar when it’s stitched into the sweater. I really love when I can use duplicate stitch because it’s a super easy way to create a stitch that looks seamless in knits, and it lets me freestyle a little bit to build up the mend in layers, like I did with this one!

When I proudly showed my partner this *almost invisible* repair I did on the sleeve of his favorite merino jumper, his response was literally: “Oh, wow! I forgot that I still had that jumper, nice!! So I can wear it again tomorrow?” 🪡 I’m not exaggerating when I say that this jumper has been on the mending pile for 2 years (it might even be longer, not sure haha) — I went back to the clips I filmed of my work-in-progress projects drawer back in March 2024, when I shared the very first video of my Unfinished Sewing Business series, and indeed: this jumper was already chilling in the drawer back then 😂 I remember seeing the repair of my red ribbed turtleneck (posted in June 2024) as a “warm up” or “practice round” for this jumper. But halfway through that mending attempt, I gave up trying to make it invisible and went for strong-but-very-visible instead. I simply don’t have as much experience mending knitwear as I have with repairing sewn garments — but I also didn’t want to lower the expectations I set for myself… I really wanted to achieve that beautiful level of completely invisible mending, but apparently didn’t want to put in the time and effort to practice, fail, and learn 😅 Because I kept procrastinating this repair, until… Until when? Until I would magically have the skills to do it, without actually putting in the hours to learn said skill??? So on a random Sunday evening, I spontaneously picked up the jumper to see what had to be done, and decided to just start. I felt a tiny bit of motivation, and tried to embrace that by not letting myself put it back in the drawer again, until! it! was! fixed! Moral of the story: to get better at something, you have to put in the hours, fail, try again, and practice practice practice. Who knew??? Just kidding of course, but sometimes I definitely need to remind myself about that — skills don’t come from luck or genetics: they’re the result of years and years of practice, trial, and lots of error. Time to pick up that project you’ve been putting off for a while! ❤️ [Full transcript of the voice over / subtitles in the comments below!]

Another Love It for Longer episode and this time I’m giving new life to these sneakers! ❤️‍🩹👟 I recently caught myself browsing online for a new pair, then remembered I already have two perfectly wearable pairs in my closet. Instead of buying something new, I decided to upcycle my black and white pair to add a little more texture and colour. 🌈🧶 When I came across the idea of beaded laces on Pinterest, I knew it would be the perfect way to give these kicks a fresh update. 🤭 What do you think of the finished shoes? 👋🏼I’d love to hear your thoughts and whether you’d try this upcycle on a pair of your own. ❤️‍🔥 I’m hoping to transform another pair using Sashiko embroidery next, so stay tuned for the next episode. ✂️🫶🏼 #slowfashion #sewing #thrifting #sustainability #upcycling

Got pants that are too tight but you’re not ready to let them go? Instead of donating them, add a scrap fabric panel and make them two sizes bigger. This is one of my favorite visible mending tricks because it actually saves clothes that don’t fit anymore while adding a little creativity to your wardrobe. Mending clothes instead of replacing them is one small way we can reduce textile waste and keep our favorite pieces longer. If you want to start visible mending, I make Stick & Stitch guides and beginner-friendly tools to help you repair your clothes with simple embroidery.
