YOSince the 1970s there has been a radio signal broadcasting nothing but a mechanical buzz, every few seconds, around the clock. Then sometimes a voice cuts in, reads a string of Russian code words, and disappears. Nobody has ever decoded a single one.
It is called The Buzzer. Nobody knows who runs it. Russia has never confirmed it exists.
In 2010 it went completely silent for the first time ever. Then in the dead air, listeners heard shuffling, doors opening, muffled voices, and briefly a few bars of Tchaikovsky playing somewhere off mic.
Then the buzzing came back.
That same year it broadcast the words "COMMAND 135 ISSUED" believed to be a military emergency order sent to Russian units in the event of a national disaster or invasion.
It spiked in activity in 2022. Again in 2024. Last year a drone strike knocked it off air. It came back within hours.
It is still broadcasting right now. Frequency 4625 kHz. You can listen yourself.
