Aphid infestations are highly destructive. These pests feed by piercing plant stems and extracting sap, which weakens the plant and hinders photosynthesis. Their saliva can also transmit plant viruses, leading to stunted growth or complete plant death. A single infestation can consist of hundreds or thousands of aphids, resulting in substantial yield losses.
When faced with an infestation, the use of pesticides can be avoided by deploying the natural predator of the aphid: the ladybug. One ladybug can consume 5000 aphids in its lifetime, with adults and larvae alike capable of munching 50 per day. Female ladybugs strategically lay their egg clusters near aphid colonies so that their little ones will hatch right near the buffet.
Any experienced grower will tell you, when dealing with aphids, this is the way.
