KELord,
I know you. I know that your heart breaks at injustice because you are the God of justice. I know your heart breaks when your image bearers die at the hands of another. I know you are full of love and compassion. You know everything. You see everything. Nothing goes unnoticed or unseen by you.
I’ve prayed for my heart to break for what breaks yours and you’ve so gently spared me from the pain of every single heartbreak you experience because I wasn’t made to carry the weight of the entire world. Only you can do that. But there are times where my heart does shatter in a million pieces over something that I know has broken your heart, too.
When my heart is broken, I don’t always know what to do. Sometimes the sharp pieces hurt so badly it makes me angry. Sometimes, I’m just angry that other people’s hearts aren’t as broken as mine.
So Lord, draw near. Be comfort to the ones who need comfort and let them feel your presence. Use your church to be the tangible hands and feet of Jesus, loving, serving, giving. Let your people echo your heartbeat for justice. Let our hearts mourn and our eyes weep every single time an image bearer is killed. You said yourself, “For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone.” Your heart is grieved that death is part of this fallen world.
And, as believers, we grieve with hope, knowing that while death is painful and it does, in fact, sting very much, we know it is not the end. Death does not get the final say. Death has been defeated. Death will eventually be no more. Because you are our great Redeemer.
In the mean time, give us courage to represent you well. To love your creation - the people you created, breathed life into, thought of and imagined up and had a purpose for. Let us love your beautiful creation well. Let us wear the fruit of the spirit in everything we do. Let us be full of love, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. Let our responses, our thoughts, our pleas, our prayers be kind and full of grace while boldly truthful.

Hope doesn’t arise because things improve. It comes from lifting our eyes from the what and the why
to the who - who God is. And when we fix our hope on the who, our waiting, however long, becomes worship.
