LAThe Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is proud to announce 23 recruits from the reserves academy class 143 graduated today and earned the title of Reserve Deputies/Officers.
Of the graduates, 18 are with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, 3 from Port Hueneme Police Department, 1 from Orange County Sheriff’s Department and 1 from Claremont Police Department.

LA#repost @lasdhq Yesterday, Assistant Sheriff Myron Johnson and Special Victims Bureau Captain Richard Ruiz, along with DCFS personnel, hosted the 38th annual “999 for Kids” ice cream social. Department members and various associations raised over $51,000 to support the foundation, with an additional $6,000 coming from other associations.
The program funds the purchase of special items and services for children, including sport wheelchairs, computers, special education classes, and medically oriented toys and games. It also supports sending children to summer camps for the deaf, blind, and those with other medical issues who would not otherwise have such opportunities.
During the event, some of the children from the program were recognized and expressed their gratitude to the donors.
Captain Ruiz also presented Eduardo Rodriguez with a $1,000 scholarship check and a “999 For Kids” plaque. Eduardo’s art design was selected from the dozens of submissions to the LA County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) during this year’s annual “999 For Kids” Art Design Contest. As the winning designer, Eduardo received a $1,000 scholarship and a plaque featuring his design.
Several other artists were acknowledged and received checks from the foundation in recognition of their skills and efforts.
#LASD units and other donors who generously contributed to “999 For Kids” this year will receive a recognition plaque bearing Eduardo’s artwork.

Downtown Santa Monica Station. Beginning on September 3, riders must tap to enter and exit the station.
Requiring proof of valid fare upon exit is part of our ongoing public safety efforts.
After implementing TAP to Exit at our North Hollywood Station in May, we have seen a 40% drop in reports of crime and disturbances via the Transit Watch app across all B Line stations.
Controlling access to the systems helps ensure that people are using the system for their transportation needs.
This is just one of the ways that we are working to improve safety on the system.
In addition, we are also:
deploying more security officers across the system
working with our contracted law enforcement partners to increase the visibility of uniformed law enforcement officers

LA#k9 #didyouknow Transit Services Bureau (TSB) has its own K9 program, funded by TSA and utilized on @metrolosangeles trains, buses, and platform for scent detection. They’re also great as a crime deterrent, too. TSB has a wide variety of ways to keep our Metro patrons and operators safe, including #verygooddogs. #lasd #tsb @lasdhq
