CRYou’ll see why latch hooking is the easiest craft ever 💕
1️⃣ Start with a wooden hook 🪝
For classic latch-hooking a wooden hook is essential! You want a sturdy hook with a steel tip that feels solid when you hold it. We include high quality hooks in every one of our kits. When you’re ready to stitch, make sure you hold it in your non-dominant hand.
2️⃣ Make a loop with your yarn 🧶
You’ll need strips of cut yarn. You can either use pre-cut yarn supplied in a kit or you can cut your own easily. You’ll want to take your yarn in your non dominant hand and make a little loop, holding it between your thumb and forefinger.
Slide your yarn loop over your hook, all the way down to the neck. Make sure the ‘latch’ section is through the loop and not getting caught.
3️⃣ Create a knot on your canvas 🪢
Watch this step slowly in the video as it’s easier to understand with a visual!
Slide your hook through a horizontal ‘bar’ on your rug or cushion canvas. You want to push the hook all the way through so the the ‘latch’ is past the canvas too. Ensure that the ‘latch’ is open, you can use your fingers to open the latch if it’s closed. Holding tightly onto your yarn ends, slide the yarn up and cross the ends diagonally across the open latch.
Then PULL your hook! As you pull down, the latch will close and catch the yarn creating a knot.
4️⃣ Pull the knot tight to secure 👌
Give the tails of your knot a little tug to secure them in place. Latch-hook knots are very strong! As long as you tighten them at the end, they will never come loose and you won’t need any glue or sewing to secure them.
