CA- Check your formatting. You’ll want to make sure that your manuscript is written in an easily readable font such as Libre Baskerville, Times New Roman, Georgia, or Cambria, and set to size 11 or 12. Some editors prefer specific fonts, so if you’re unsure which one to use, don’t be afraid to ask!
- Figure out what you need help with. Are you worried that your characters feel flat? Do you have a hard time with punctuation? Is your romance feeling unbelievable? Let your editor know! If we know what you need help with, we can go over those areas with that information in mind.
- If you don’t already know, ask your editor how often you’ll hear from them. Find out how often you can expect an update, and how they’ll reach out to you. A voice note on Instagram every few days? Weekly email letters? A phone call? Make sure you know what to expect!
- Prepare for questions. If it’s a developmental edit, you may be asked to expand a scene, or to explain the layout of a setting. If you’re receiving line edits, you might receive questions to clarify meaning. And for copy editing, you may get questions about preferred spelling.
