QUHow I quilted this #retroblossomsquilt ! 👏 This design is one of my favorite quilting designs ever! It’s all straight lines, creates the best texture and is easy enough to create on your own home domestic sewing machine. Here’s a few quilting tips:
- First, I quilted vertical and horizontal lines that are ~1.5” apart. You can modify this design to create quilting that is more dense or less dense. Start in the center and work your way out to the edges.
- Use a walking foot for even stitches.
- Use a guide bar if you have it. This sticks in your walking foot and helps you have a reference for line placement as you are quilting.
- I like to stitch with a 3.0 - 3.5 mm stitch length.
- Use thread as an accent or to create texture. My needle thread for the top of my quilt is a “wine” color, which blends in nicely with the rest of my fabrics. Since it doesn’t stand out too much, it creates a great texture without drawing too much attention to itself.
- Adjust speed control, if possible. I’ve found that quilting too fast can result in my quilt sandwich shifting as I am quilting.
- Look ahead as you are quilting; this helps keep your lines straight.
- Embrace imperfections. Although my lines may look straight, they are not perfect! Once all of your lines are sewn, your quilt is washed and everything is nice and crinkly...you will not be able to see minor imperfections. Try not to sweat it and embrace that it is handmade!

INQuilt kits may be my new favorite thing.
I haven't had the energy to do much this year, but I have had a lot of extra time. I knew I needed to start a new project to keep myself from stalling. I figured a quilt would be a good project to keep myself busy, but I'm always overwhelmed with all the choices that I never start.
I figured a quilt kit would be ideal so everything was already decided for me. I asked for recommendations and ended up finding the Petite Plaid Quilt from Lo & Behold Stitchery. It even has an option to include the binding and backing. It was a bit of an investment, but I'm glad I got it. It really took the extra stress out and I was able to get started right away.
I forget that I don't know how to pace myself with projects. I ended up finishing this quilt top quicker than I expected and am ready to start another one.
To help fill my time, I decided to quilt it myself so wish me luck on pacing myself better. I'm glad the pattern has a suggested design so I don't have to overthink it.
This is the second quilt top I've made from a pattern. I had to redo some seam allowances, but it wasn't too difficult once I figured it out.

DII’m trying to keep up with the #knittedbloomsqal - and now I’ve cut my fabric and done a mix & match session. Realizing when I wanted to pair all those sets up with background color fabric that I actually wanted to limit myself to 12 colors, not 16! So now I’m putting 4 sets aside, and who knows, maybe I’ll get some more of the background fabric and just make a bigger quilt, or maybe it’ll end up as cushion covers or a baby blanket.
Can’t wait to get sewing on this!

ANGosh, I love this quilt. 🤍 I was so honored to make it for a friend, whose husband reached out to me because he wanted to gift her a quilt for her birthday. My heart could have burst that day, I was so happy! He remembered that she mentioned she liked the Upscale Plaid quilt pattern and he picked a color scheme he thought she would love. Thanks to Ashley @punkinheadfabric for curating this beautiful color combination for the quilt top. She has so many great Upscale Plaid quilt kits in her shop. I went with a super soft flannel back and Abacus quilting pantograph and I think it all came together so nicely! This is the first quilt to get one of my new labels (same label, new gold color).

BE3 things that made a ALL the difference:
1. Don’t overstuff the puffs! Less is truly more
2. Ain’t no one got time for hand tying. Zig zag chain stitch it where it’s at
3. Don’t overthink the ombré. Lay it out and let it go friends.
