I’ve been testing a new workflow that combines Houdini, Nano Banana Pro and Mago Studio to push AI-assisted 3D further. For this test, I built a small environment in Houdini using my street generator, placed a 3D Audi 100 from Trunk — our feature film for Amazon from two years ago — and animated a few rough camera moves. I exported the shots as flipbooks and rendered four clean perspectives of the car to create an AI character sheet in ComfyUI with Nano Banana Pro. These frames became the reference for generating accurate start frames. With the Nano Banana start frame and the viewport clip, I moved into Mago Studio and applied a full style transfer using Depth ControlNet and the First Frame V3.4 engine. One important note: Nano Banana can shift the image slightly, so I realigned every start frame and clip in Nuke to keep them perfectly matched. My conclusion so far: this workflow provides a high level of control over look, camera movement and effect placement — essential for structured shot work. Long clips still show artifacts, but with more viewport detail and refined start frames, the results improve significantly. I see this approach becoming an important part of the future of 3D once AI tools become more stable and consistent. The 3D layout phase will remain, but likely in a rougher and faster form, potentially supported by AI-generated models. Thank you @mago.studio.ai for the opportunity to test the tool. Here are 3 versions of the final result, and I'm very happy to be able to share them with you. I sincerely hope you enjoy it! The project consisted of imagining a way to stylize 3D smoke and fire effects in 2D. I had a lot of fun there, and I continue to work on submarines on other projects that I will share with you very soon! For those who are wondering: 👉 The set is matte painting, as well as the lighting that goes with it, as I focused mainly on the look of the FX itself in 3D. Apart from the setting, everything is full 3D, with a simulation-based workflow that can be fully replicated in other contexts.
