A few days ago, in the middle of the storm, I received a message from a municipality worker. While clearing rainwater, his team heard desperate cries… not human—but close enough to stop them in their tracks. Two foxes. Trapped in what had become a deep, water-filled foundation—like a silent, rising grave. By the time I got there, nearly an hour later through flooded roads and unmoving traffic… one of them had already drowned. The other was still there. Exhausted. Freezing. Terrified.She had been fighting to stay afloat for hours. We tried everything—floating plywood, giving her something to climb onto—but the walls were too slippery. Even if she reached the edge, there was no escape. So I got into the water. Every time I tried to loop her, she would panic and swim away… only to return, too tired to keep going.Again. And again. And again. And with every minute, the light was fading. So I made a choice—the next time she swam, I would follow. And I did. I caught up to her, managed to secure her, and we pulled her out.
