Lupine the prettiest bay mare in the world. I feel like I haven’t spotted her for a good while and was so happy when she identified herself, with her signature move of touching her nose to the ground for cookies. She’s become the most fiercely independent mare and has spent time with a number of different boys until choosing Montana to be her main companion. In the background you can see many of her herd going by to follow the hay cart down below. The ballerinas, in all their glorious color looking amazing in the snow. And then two grulla mares saved from kill pens, Aspen and Lewis, who are from the same HMA Divide Basin in Wyoming and who we actually suspect are related. On May 9, 2023 the BLM issued a Record of Decision and Approved Resource Management Plan Amendment that reverted the entirety of the Great Divide Basin and Salt Wells Creek HMAs to Herd Areas, managed for zero wild horses. It’s that decision which is being appealed and we hope overturned this summer. If anyone would like to watch the webinar we did last week with @freewildhorses we discuss the AIP suspension and also a lot of creative solutions for managing our wild horses on public lands which are more at threat than ever right now.
