MULa Bamba - Ritchie Valens
Lançada em outubro de 1958 como o lado B do single "Donna", "La Bamba" tornou-se um marco histórico não apenas na carreira de Ritchie Valens, mas na própria história do rock and roll. Aos 17 anos, o cantor mexicano-americano fez algo revolucionário: transformou uma canção folclórica tradicional de Veracruz, México, em um rock and roll elétrico, criando um dos primeiros exemplos de fusão entre música latina e rock.
A canção original, "La Bamba", é um son jarocho tradicional, com letras que celebram a dança e o casamento, transmitido oralmente por gerações no México. Valens, que não falava espanhol fluentemente, aprendeu a letra foneticamente para gravá-la. Sua versão apresenta uma guitarra elétrica vibrante, um ritmo contagiante e uma energia juvenil que capturou instantaneamente a imaginação do público.
O produtor Bob Keane relutava em incluir a faixa no álbum, mas Valins insistiu.
