Boo! A Madea Halloween is a 2016 American comedy-horror film written, directed, produced by, and starring Tyler Perry as the iconic no-nonsense grandma Madea. It’s the eighth entry in the long-running Madea franchise (and one of the few not directly adapted from his stage plays), inspired by a fake Madea Halloween movie gag in Chris Rock’s Top Five (2014).
Released by Lionsgate on October 21, 2016 (perfectly timed for spooky season), it runs 103 minutes and is rated PG-13 for crude humor, language, and some scary bits.
The plot: Madea’s nephew Brian (also played by Perry) is heading out of town and can’t control his rebellious 17-year-old daughter Tiffany (Diamond White), who’s dead set on sneaking to a wild Halloween frat party. He begs Madea to babysit and keep her home. Of course, Tiffany sneaks out anyway. Madea (with her crew: Aunt Bam, Hattie, and cranky old Joe) storms the party to drag her back, but things escalate into chaos with pranks, fake scares from vengeful college kids, and over-the-top “horrors” like ghosts, zombies, killer clowns, and poltergeists. It’s a mix of slapstick, family drama, moral lessons (Madea-style), and Madea dishing out beatdowns while yelling her signature lines.
