This card trick works because when the red ace is placed onto the dealt packet, you place the rest of the deck on top of it. This puts the bottom card of the deck directly next to the red ace. You start with one black ace on the bottom and the other on top. The first red ace will end up next to the black ace that starts on the bottom of the deck, and the second red ace will end up next to the black ace that started on top (this black ace, at the beginning of the trick, was the first card dealt down to the table, which puts it on the bottom for the second round of dealing).
