Shrawan is considered an auspicious month in Mithilanchal. It is here again and women in Maithil region have been celebrating Madhushravani Festival festival since past 45 days approx (this time due to malemaash)

Mithila, as a whole observes a very vivacious and blissful moment during the entire festival period. The women during the entire period observe fast, some portion of milthila also refrains from having Sindha Samak and some parts consume it during their fast.

Another distinctive feature about this festival is that women have to read different holy stories every day. Legends and stories related to Madhushravani festival are recited on the first and last day of the festival

On the last day, the women are made to play with fire on their thigh, which is called 'Temi' in local language. It’s is said that there should at least be one burn mark on the women thigh. People have different views about it. Most of the women are quiet ok about this as they understand the reason behind this from the holy stories they listen to”.
