Maltodextrin has never been subject to significant FDA scrutiny and is considered ‘GENERALLY RECOGNISED AS SAFE’ (GRAS). There are also no regulations on the labelling requirements of maltodextrin. It can be labelled on packaging as: Modified starch Dextrin Modified food starch Natural flavours (because it comes from grains/corn 🤨) Spice Seasoning Texture enhancer Bulking agent Hydrolysed wheat Low-carb or sugar free products almost always replace the sugar with maltodextrin. The harmful effects of maltodextrin: promotes harmful bacteria in the gut, promotes leaky gut, spikes blood sugar, promotes fat accumulation, increases inflammation, and impairs immune system responses, creates dopamine response because of its high glucose spike, resulting in an addictive pattern to want more.
