In the teachings of the Ginza Rabba, life is a sacred trust given by the World of Light, not something we own or can end ourselves. The soul is meant to complete its journey on Earth and return pure. These quotes remind us to endure hardship, protect the soul, and respect the life that has been entrusted to us. 🤍 #mandaean #sabianmandaeans #peace #mandaeanculture #fyp

Ever imagined a cemetery as a place of *celebration*? In Madagascar, the Famadihana tradition is a powerful display of love and connection. Families gather to exhume their ancestors, re-wrap them in fresh silk, and then dance with them! It's not spooky, it's a beautiful way to involve spirits in family news before they fully depart. This incredible custom reminds us how diverse human traditions can be. What do you think of this? ✨ Marmanar Word of the Week: Marmanuuk ✨ Marmanuuk means My / Our Father in Marmanar. Pronounced: [mar-mu-nook] This word was recorded by George Augustus Robinson and attributed to the West Coast Tribes. It appears in several recorded forms, including “marm.er.nook” and “mam.ma.nuke.er”. A related form, “nim.er.nook”, was also recorded to mean your father. As we continue our learning, we see again how Marmanar carries meaning beyond simple description. The “mar” prefix — understood as part of me or part of us — reinforces that family is intrinsic to who we are. Fathers, like all kin, are not separate from identity, but deeply woven into it. Through Language, these relationships are named, honoured and carried forward — strengthening our understanding of Culture and connection. Who is your Marmanuuk?

Honored to present on the Chaldean language at Oakland University’s International Mother Language Day 2026. To understand what Chaldean is, we must go back to the roots — to ancient Mesopotamia, to the clay tablets, to the earliest writing systems that shaped human civilization. Our mother language carries more than words. It carries memory, identity, scholarship, and continuity across generations. Through the Chaldean Language Workshop at OU, students are learning to read, write, and preserve a language with thousands of years of history — ensuring it lives forward, not just backward. The revival has begun. #Chaldean #InternationalMotherLanguageDay #OaklandUniversity #LanguageRevival #EndangeredLanguages Mesopotamia CulturalHeritage LinguisticDiversity

across soomaaliweyn, qur’anic learning begins in early childhood and is woven into the everyday rhythms of life rather than confined to formal institutions. dugsi functions as a basic, community‑supported system of religious instruction, often operating outdoors under trees or in modest neighbourhood spaces, and is widely regarded as the foundational layer of education for both boys and girls. this early start normalises islamic studies as a shared cultural practice, not an extracurricular. children attend almost daily, often before or after formal schooling, joining peers grouped by ability rather than age. each child prepares a portion of the qur’an, their cashar, inscribing it onto a wooden tablet known as a loox using locally made ink crafted from ground charcoal mixed with water and binding agents such as sugar or aloe sap. the loox method integrates visual, motor, and auditory memory, as children write, recite, revise, then wash their boards clean in a repeated cycle of embodiment and renewal. memorisation is assessed through recitation to the macalin, whose task is both pedagogical and moral, correcting tajwiid, monitoring progress, and nurturing discipline. over time, students move beyond rote learning into tafsiir, fiqh, and fusha arabic, embedding scriptural knowledge within broader linguistic and ethical frameworks. in somali society, high levels of qur’an memorisation are widely observable; taxi drivers and market traders often recite fluently, reflecting a culture in which hifdh is casual, ubiquitous, and deeply esteemed. milestones in this journey are celebrated communally. when a child completes a juz, families host gatherings known as bunayn, serving food, offering supplication, and publicly honouring the learner’s achievement while praying for continued progress. through these practices, dugsi is experienced as a living covenant between god, child, teacher, and community. #somalia #djibouti
