3 Etiquette Tips to remember for your holiday table this weekend: 1️⃣ Napkin goes in your lap. At a restaurant, place it in your lap right away. In someone’s home, follow their host’s timing. 2️⃣ Wait to eat until everyone is seated or the host says “please begin”. 3️⃣ Break bread into bite-sized piece. #charlotteetiquette #mannerly #etiquette #mannersmatter #charlotte #bepolite #modernetiquette #bemannerly

As an etiquette instructor, one of the first lessons I teach to our new students is our ‘dinner guest checklist’ to use at the end of each meal. We can have the most impeccable dining etiquette throughout the meal, but if we forget to express gratitude at the end of a meal, we’ve missed the chance to be a gracious guest. Gratitude is at the heart of good manners—and it’s something we can easily reinforce at the dinner table. Turn it into a game - before your child leaves the table, have them recall the “dinner guest checklist”: 1) Napkin on the table (to the left of the plate) 2) A sincere thank you to the host or hostess To learn more about our etiquette programs, please visit Mannerly.com Warmly, Elizabeth Anne Russell #EtiquetteTips #RaisingPoliteKids #TableManners #GratitudeMatters #FamilyEtiquette #LittleLadiesAndGents #charlotteetiquette #mannerly #etiquette #mannersmatter #charlotte

Welcome back to Mannerly Monday! Let’s discuss napkin etiquette - where to place our napkin while in a restaurant! Of course we place a napkin in our lap when seated, but what about when you leave the table? Should I toss it behind me? Let’s learn a couple simple rules which allow us to show respect to restaurant staff and those dining with us. Fun fact - Did you know, even as late as the 19th Century, guests would be expected to bring their own napkin because of the cost of linens? I’m glad this has changed! My name is Elizabeth Anne Russell, and I am the founder of Charlotte Etiquette. We teach everyday manners and social courtesies in fun, relevant ways through our etiquette classes. Here are 5 “polite” manners that are actually considered impolite when dining in a restaurant: 1) Staying ‘politely’ silent about an issue, then complaining online. If something’s wrong, speak up with kindness during the meal. Give the restaurant a chance to make it right. 2) Correcting someone’s table manners. Publicly calling out someone’s dining etiquette infraction is often more impolite than the original faux pas. Good etiquette makes others feel welcome and comfortable with you. 3) Seating yourself and grabbing menus. Unless there’s a sign inviting you to do so, please wait to be seated. 4) Waiting until the end of the meal to let the server know you plan to split the bill with a group. Let your server know early so they can prepare accordingly. 5) Chatting too long with your server. Kindness and warmth are essential in every interaction, but when your server is busy, be respectful and keep the small talk… small. The heart of etiquette is to maintain an awareness of others and to put others first so that our interactions are filled with honor, kindness and respect. Old-School Manners We Are Still Teaching In 2025 Hold doors open for others. Both boys and girls can share the virtues of kindness and service. Wait to speak instead of interrupting. Self-control and dignity go hand in hand Thank you notes (in ink!) are heartfelt expressions of gratitude. Skip the text. Pick up your pen. Offer your seat to someone - notice the needs of others. No electronics at the table. Do not miss moments of true connection. Help clean up without being asked. True etiquette shows up in humble service. Confidently introduce yourself and friends to one another. It is inclusive and communicates respect. Eye contact during conversation. Screens have trained us to look down. We agree manners (still) matter. Let’s raise the next generation of kind, confident kids who share honor and respect with others.
