BURickroll on Exam Paper? CBSE Clarifies After QR Code on Maths Paper Links to YouTube Video
➠ The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) said it is taking seriously reports that a QR code printed on a Class 12 mathematics question paper allegedly redirected users to a YouTube video. The issue surfaced after the exam held on March 9, 2026.
➠ Images and videos circulating online showed that scanning the QR code on some question paper sets appeared to lead to Rick Astley’s 1987 song Never Gonna Give You Up, a prank widely known as “rickrolling.”
➠ CBSE clarified that the question papers used in the examination were genuine and that the security of the exam had not been compromised. The Board said QR codes are included in papers as a security feature to verify authenticity during suspected breaches.
➠ Officials added that the matter is being examined to ensure such incidents are not repeated.
