About Mayflies
🔺Ancient insects: Mayflies (order Ephemeroptera) are among the oldest winged insects, dating back over 300 million years.
🔺Aquatic childhood: They spend most of their life as nymphs underwater—sometimes for 1 to 2 years—living in streams, rivers, and ponds.
🔺Short adult life: Once they become adults, they live only a few hours to a couple of days. Their only job is to mate and lay eggs.
🔺No eating as adults: Adult mayflies don’t have functional mouthparts—they can’t eat at all.
